Default Open Loop or Closed Loop for swap?

Been researching a LS swap into my 75 Vette and I thought I saw people using an Open Loop System. When I have been doing some searches on Ebay and other sites I see people using the Painless Closed Loop System.

What is the major difference between the 2, and is there big advantages / disadvantages to the 2?

If I understand right the Closed Loop is always monitoring the O2 Sensor trying to adjust on the fly. Is this correct?

Which way are most people going for this?

Sorry if this has been covered before, but not having much luck with the search...

Thanks guys,

run a closed loop. open loop is similar to just running a carb.

im using a stock ecu on a closed loop tune - runs great. dont have to worry about elevation, minor mods, etc.

agreed, run closed loop if you have a choice, because the system will self-correct, up to a point.

When in Open Loop, it is usually when the engine is not up to normal operating Temp and is using an open Loop/defaulted Fuel Mapping table. Pretty much in limp mode.

You want a to be in Closed Loop for the ECM / PCM to be managing the engine.
