Default Power Steering hookup advice....

I did a search for this and found nothing, so here it goes.

You guys who transplanted LS1's into your 1st Gen F-bodies, how did you hook up your powersteering pump to the power steering box? I've heard this can be a bit tricky.

I need a list of parts (with part numbers) and a brief instruction, if you would be so kind.

Thank you.

on my 72 nova, i used the fitting from the back of the original power steering pump and traded it onto the back of the new style truck pump, then i just used stock nova steering lines. but there are adapter fittings available.

There definitely is a thread here on that with all the part numbers, but searching the site is pretty much impossible.

Someone will have a link to the thread though

For the High side, I used an O-Ring to AN Adapter and a Inverted flare to AN adapter on the Steering Box. Both to AN -6, then used Teflon lined SS Braided hose with AN -6 Hose Fittings.

For the low pressure side, you can use standard power steering rated Rubber hose and clamps or you can go AN w/SS Braided hose.
FYI Note, for the return on the Reservior, the Teflon Lined Hose will not fit over the nipple / barb.

Russell
620421 90 degress Endura Hose Ends
648060 O-ring 16mm x 1.5mm to AN Adapter (power steering Pump).
632600 Power steering / Teflon line SS Braide hose.

Aeroquip (only becuase the parts store didn't have these in Russell)
FCM2964 for the power steering to AN -6 to 5/8-18 Inverted Flare.
FCM2965 for the power steering to AN -6 to 11/16-18 Inverted Flare.

Lots of ways to get the same result. On my truck, I took the existing PS pressure line and had a local independent parts shop replace the pump end with a 16mm metric O ring fitting. Cost me about 15 bux and they had it done in a couple hours.

2002 LS1 out of F-body in '68 Camaro

I'm using a steering box out of an '85 TA that has the O-ring fittings. I just carefully straightened 1 bend on the stock pressure side line to meet the box. The return line was a little too short, so I made a steel line just a little longer. (used the Master Cool tool for that O-ring end) Then hose clamped it. Working so far.
