Default 5.3 flywheel/starter?

So i have a 5.3 going into a second gen camaro. The 5.3 didnt come with a starter. I havent decided what tranny i am going to use yet either T56 or old th350. The flex plate that came on engine is 168 tooth, does anyone know how many teeth are on ls1 flywheels? Also is there a differnce in ls1 starters between auto and manual cars? I would think if I put a ls1 flywheel on i would need a starter off a camaro, does that sound right?

Default Smaller flywheel

New here and I thought I read I'm not allowed to start a new thread for a while, so...

Does anybody know of a flywheel other than the traditional 168/153 tooth that will bolt up to the LSX motors? Does any of the 3.8, 4.3 ? stuff have the same crank bolt pattern but smaller overall flywheel diameter?

I need to do something custom but the normal flywheels' friction surface is too big on the ID. It would be nice to start with an 'off the shelf' part.

Pls help an LS newb! google is tiring of my flywheel searches!

TIA

I recall seeing a build with a rear mounted starter.
Check this out.

Thanks Gary - I appreciate it a lot.

For clarity - I intend to use a Nissan tranny and starter. The starter is mounted to the tranny.

Solving this one problem will in effect solve five other problems: 1. tunnel/firewall mods 2.speedo 3:driveshaft 4:the cost of a different tranny 5: shifter location.

So, My goal is to find a flywheel with a LSX crank bolt pattern that has a smaller diameter friction surface area ID than the standard V8 LS flywheels. I will have the flywheels OD machined to accept the nissan ring gear - then balanced. I am alternatively trying to research a smaller flywheel that has a crank mounting pattern that can be 'opened up' to fit the LS crank. The 2000 3.8 mustang flywheel is looking a bit hopeful if there is no smaller flywheel with a LS pattern from the get go.

TIA

LS motors only came stock with the 168t flywheel. Anything other than that, your into (a very limited) aftermarket or custom built.

Now I can stop looking. Custom it must be.
