clearance issues with oil pan and steering arm 1970 nova ly6/4l80 swap
were having some clearance issues with a 1970 nova conversion were working on. it had the truck pan on it and the steering arm barely rubbed the pan but it hung down way too low. we put a fbody pan on and it doesn't habng down too low but sits on the steering arm. does any one make an offset steering arm for the 68-72 nova? Theres not much room to lift the motor up due to the 4l80e.
What did the other nova or camaro conversion guys do?

I know that the 67-69 Nova shared the same frame and steering as the 67-69Camaro/Firebird. Not sure if the 70 Nova frame is different.
If they are the same, the Hooker motor plates #12611HKR might allow you to use the F-body pan without alteration of pan, or steering.
Also, I have 1 1/2" clearance between pass head & firewall, & 2 1/2" between driver's head & firewall.

If you dont want to notch your own pan street and performance has a notched pan exchange program. Its kind of expensive though.I would try the holley set back plates that gmag mentioned first though. And of course there is the holley and the mast pan that will clear as they are.

If the subframes and steering are the same (x-body/f-body), how much clearance do you presently have to the firewall? How close to the steering are you?
If you have more firewall clearance than I do, try the Hooker plates. They'll bring the engine back, and are much cheaper than an oil pan.
I had originally altered my f-body oil pan, bec every comment stated that I HAD to do this. After installing the engine, I realized that pan alteration was not necessary. This was in combination with Energy Suspension mounts.
