Tight flex-plate bolts are good for at least 5HP, even on Cunninghams "Stingy Dyno"

Talked to Ryne Cunningham today and he feels between running in 3rd gear with my 6L80 and his new program(old computer crashed) the power is probably down 3-4%. That would put me easily into the 490+ rwhp range. On a Dynojet probably 500rwhp. By the way he has been running cars in 3rd gear for quite awhile. So last years dyno was indeed in 3rd gear.

Thanks for the follow up. I was there a few weeks ago, so it seems he definitely used 3rd for me.
Good for you on all the new power.

Thanks guys. Inda_bebe has a very nice black 1966 Buick Skylark. It is currently powered by the Buick 225 V6 so it need a power upgrade. Charles when the time comes I will help where I can.

When you do purchase your motor get everything you can that it came with. That would be the wiring harness, ECM, fuse box accelerator pedal etc.

I am going to be installing the Vararam intake manifold when it becomes available this Summer. From what I can tell the location of the truck style alternator bracket is going to be in the way.

Replacing the truck style bracket with the Holley unit is something I have been wanting to do for a long time. I did not realize that the new location of the alternator would interfere with where I had the mounting of my ECM. So I have to find a new home for it and I think I found the spot. It will be relocated in the fender well past my air filter.

I was going to use the Holley bracket on the A/C side but come to find out I would have to rotate the compressor 45 degrees and I don't think my A/C hose would like that. The A/C is working just fine so I decided to leave that alone and just convert the alternator and power steering side. As a side note my serpentine belt length went from a 117.7 to a 99.4 inch in length. Here are some progress pictures.

Edit. I wanted to add that I was able to use the Corvette C5 power steering pressure hose. I also have the Jeep Cherokee power steering box.

New alternator location.

The A/C compressor remains where it is.

Finished up the installation of the Holley alternator/power steering bracket and the relocation of the E38 ECM. I like this spot better for the ECM as it is more out of the way from the engine compartment heat. Also a picture of the next project for next month. Here are the pictures.

This one shows the relocated ECM beyond the air filter.

I got the new style Tanks Inc fuel tank and pump installed today. One of the reasons was for the noise the old Walbro 255 fuel pump would make. I now have the Walbro 400 fuel pump installed and a big difference. You can hardly hear it from outside and no noise inside the car.

I am still seriously considering the Cam Motion low lash solid roller camshaft. I think I will give them a call today.

Inda bebe, if you want the old tank let me know. It is complete with pump and sender.

Update: I went and filled the car up and it took 22.75 gallons of gas. The old tank was rated at 21.5 gallons. The mechanic told me this tank was bigger and he was not kidding. It must hold around 25 gallons. New straps come with the tank and now I know why. I love how quiet the car is. I think I now have most of the squeaks and rattles gone.

I talked with Kip from Cam Motion today and he is going to specify a low lash solid roller camshaft for the motor. That looks like the next major purchase and that will be done sometime in July. After that is all done maybe the new Vararam X intake manifold will be on the market. So maybe in September for the Vararam purchase and installation and then I will be ready for the track times this Winter.

Here is the Low Lash Solid Roller camshaft that Kip of Cam Motion came up with for my car.

246/252 @ .050" lift. LSA is 115 +3. Lift is .673"/.655". According to Danny the lift at the valve for the intake side should be .649" subtracting for the lash and a couple of other things. The hot lash is .010"/.010". The camshaft looks wilder than it really is.

Hopefully I will be able to couple this with the Vararam X intake manifold. I think this should put me in the 10.99 second area. However without a roll cage etc I am a little leery of running my car at that speed in the 1/4 mile. I may just do the 1/8 and coast the rest of the way. We shall see.

10.99 doesn't really feel that fast. Like a cruise down the boulevard.

Ok, the next phase of the engine modifications got started today. I placed an order with Cam Motion for the LLSR cmshaft. Specifications are 246/252 @ .050" with .673"/.655" on the lift. LSA is 115 +3. Actual lift will be just under .650" at the valve with all the losses.

Going with the T&D 1.7" rocker arms and the Morel 4737 solid roller lifters. The 4737 uses the factory lifter trays which I will order in some new ones to replace the old ones. I do not want to take any chances in that area.

Next up will be the Vararam X-Ram intake manifold when it becomes available. By the way Speedtigger gained 33rwhp changing from his Cam Motion hydraulic camshaft to the Cam Motion LLSR. I would be tickled to death if I gained 30 rwhp with the new LLSR camshaft. Now if I could gain another 20+RWHP with Vararam X-Ram intake manifold that would be awesome.

Edit: The current hydraulic camshaft is a Cam Motion 238/242 with .629"/.629" lift on a LSA of 114 +3.
