Default LSX swap Monte Carlo w/ 4L80E Shift Linkage Question

hey guys,

i have been searching quite a bit the past few days trying to find a shift linkage compatible with the 370 ci iron block I built with a 4L80E behind it.

i have found that a 4th gen F-body shifter and linkage from a 2000 camaro v6 will work and it has worked out PERFECT........... except for when i try and connect it to the shifter arm on the transmission. The nipple on the shifter arm of the 4l80 is quite small compared to the nipple on the 4l60 for the shift linkage connection.

I did the obvious thing and switched the shifter arms on the transmission. No cigar. The 4l60 arm is at a different angle and shorter than the 4l80 arm thus only shifting into approximately 3 gears.

anybody have a suggestion on what I should do? am i missing a piece to the arm to make it compatible? pics would be appreciated

derek

I'm assuming a floor mounted shifter and not column correct?

There is a company called shiftworks which is where I got the shifter for my 4l80e in my GTO. He should be able to help you out.

Look at this link, maybe you just need the linkage "fix-it" bracket...

i appreciate your response man. i came across that website right before i put this post up but i noticed the nipple on that shift arm they are selling is still the small nipple. the shift linkage needs the larger nipple like is on the 4l60e

EDIT: i guess they could switch that out if i talked to them.....

I just called shiftworks and they said they couldn't help me.

Superbean, can you give me a part number or a pic of what you are talking about? I have a bracket from the 200r still if that is the same thing you are talking about

If you have a welder, why not just remove the larger ball from the 60e linkage arm and weld it to the 80e arm?

Ive been dealing wiht the SAME problem with the floor shifter & stock cable/linkage on my Monte... I started by grinding off the pin on the stock 80E bracket, redrilled the hole at a higher point, and then stuck my stock shift linkage pin w/ cotter key into it. It works for all gears except first.

The 80E bracket is defintiely some sort of steel and has a hard coating on it. Had to bear down on it pretty hard with two new bits to chew through the coating..

It sure looks like the 4LE-C shiftworks bracket could work but if they told you it wouldn't, I dont know what to say...

Subbed for a solution!

sorry for late response.

used 99 camaro v6 shifter and cable with 4l80e shifter arm and swapped the 4l60e shifter arm nipple over to the 4l80e.

with the hedman hedders (pn 14510 i believe) i had to flip the nipple towards the trans for it to work so it would not hit the headers but it shifts into all gears
