Gathering parts little by little~! Not much of a update here but while the money is low and progress is not really happening, I figured I'd finish up the heads. Heres a before when we first pulled them off

And after I got done cleaning them up.

Could be alot more clean proffesionally done, but hell not too bad for a brush and carb cleaner and some hours of work! Definetly better than the carbon build up it had before

Here we wanted to just see how it looked somewhat together...Looking sexier every part that gets on!

Ok, here we have the truck bracket mounted to the motor to see where we have to cut and relocate. I know what I need to do to move the idler below the alternator, but the PS pump pulley is in the air...I hear just use a GM v6 pulley, so does that mean any or is there a specific part number people have used?

Alternator sits a little high but its not too bad for now til I can spend the money for a front accesories upgrade for a more sleak look

As of right now I am really in a rock and a hard place, no money and time is awasting! Hopefully I will have my audio stuff sold within the month and I can get a few hundred off them. I did talk to my boss, next month I will have the 200 for the 305/200r4 I am selling to my boss. He also is going to buy my spare set of tires, so for 275 bucks I am getting this out of the deal from him....

-He gets the 305/200r4 + driveshaft
-He gets the front 205/60/15s + 275/60/15s tires *used*

I receive
-Powder coated wiper cowl
-275 bucks
-Him and I are pulling the drivetrain
-Him and I are stripping the frame/underbody and coating it
-I get to do all this in his garage.

I think I am making out on a deal for a 305!! lol. I have 200 bucks right now, I am saving for my headers than buying the 1 inch set back plates. After that, the money I am getting from him I am either going to hold it and keep building the cash for my 1100 dollar Converter/flexplate or ship my wiring to get modified ....3 weeks is the earliest for down time for the wiring. Longer I wait the longer it will take to get done more than likely. Both are essential for this build....

Also, few months back we got the new balljoints installed with the 5660 springs. Didnt lower it enough so it was more work but I wanted sentimental value added to the car, so I took the drop spindles off my s10 that I had for 9 years and was my first ride after it was totalled by someone else and installed them to the car. Now it sits lower but not low enough. So whent he motor gets installed I will have springs taken out, cut one coil and reinstall. MonteExpress I believe is his name has the same setup and it looks great. But heres the look, not too bad for my tastes

Heres how the ls3 intake looks with the stock placement of the idler pulley. It has been cut but this gives you a idea on how much it blocks your TB opening

So heres your updates! Nothing crazy but its progress. Hoping to have the motor in the car by Mid June. Once its in, I can get the D/S measurements, ship them out and get it shipped to me. Once that happens, I can than get some headers, fit them, than order my SS flex fuel lines and start routing the lines. Hope you all like the updates!

It's coming along nicely. If I remember correctly my driveshaft needed to be shortened a couple of inches and it was from a GN. However I have a 4L60. Once I get my car driveable again I'll have to bring it to my new house and notch the rear rails like you did. I've heard people say it's possible with the body on but never saw any pictures so thank you

Well I plan to go.with a PST drive shaft so it will be a custom one built for the car. And yea the notching was done with the car still on the frame. Make sure you notch to wheel well and not tubs since I have to get mine extended.

I'm just hoping to get a surprise on cash flow and hear this thing run and drive before summers over.

Those eBay motor mounts you used, they are considered 1 inch set back plates? I'm not using transdapt again. Used them on my full-size and they needed to be cut and welded to fit correctly.

And on the cheap would the stock radiator cool the motor? I'd rather not spend money on a new radiator right now if I do not need to. I know u used the f body radiator right?

This is going to be a kickass Monte and is how the SS should have been built. Keep up the good work!

My brother had an 81 Monte and it was a nice car. It was loaded with all the options and it had T-tops too. It was just a cruiser though, he never modded it.

Yea I can't wait to get started on swapping this motor into the car. So ready to have a a car again. Next month will mark one year (June 16th) when my s10 was totaled . So I'm super anxious to get the car going!

Today (10min) ago, I just ordered the sending unit and 340lph pump/ hot wire kit from racetronix. Hopefully I will have the money next week for the ss flexible fuel lines than when I'm needing the -6 AN fittings, order them. As of now, next on the agenda is the headers, motor mounts than measure for the driveshaft. Hopefully the weekend after memorial day we can dive into this. Can't wait!!

Been a while so I figure I'd update the thread. No pictures quite yet but I will be posting them as soon as the progress begins to really hit its stride. But heres what has happened since last time I left off:

I have the wiring harness completely pinned out and labeled so it is more plug and play than I originally had it. I also picked up a set of ls1 brakes front and rear (loaded) with only 15k on them. I plan to get them mounted and completed by spring time.

The 8.5 rear is being cleaned up as we speak and after being coated, I will be having the rear and the boxed rear control arms mounted in place of the old 7.5 and stock control arms.

As for today, I just ordered the Iceman 4l80e trans to come in so I do not need the stock one modded and I have heard good reviews on the x member too. Cant wait to get this going!

As for the car, its been a very long 8 months since the monte first begin the tear down and removal of the 305 and 200r4. I have been working pretty hard on cleaning the frame rad support and undercarriage stripping it completely in preperation for the Rust Seal that I purchase a ways back. I am going to finish the prep up Friday than it should be ready to be coated. Once the rear is in, the frame/under carriage is coated the car will go back to the other shop to get the notch finished and possible tubs modded.

Once that is done it is back to the house for me to start trying to put the car's new drivetrain together and install! Again, pictures should be coming in the next few weeks but I figured I give you guys all a heads up! Once the car is back, I am purchasing the SS F body headers having them modded than mounting the drive train and than running the fuel system. Getting close to making HUGE strides!

Well got the floor pan just about done. Only part left is where the rear sits. We plan to swap in the 8.5 next Thursday so between swapping rears, I'll get the rest stripped.

I plan to buy the last parts needed for the motor with the money I have left from selling the old rear. I'm going with 42 lb injectors, any brand to stay away from or brands that are good?

Other then the injectors I need the headers and the motor is ready to be dropped in. Can't wait!
