Default Cam for 5.3L 82 CJ7?

I have a 82 CJ7 w/ 1ton axles (4.88 Gears) that I am in the process of swapping in a 5.3L from a 2002 Avalanche (Drive by Wire). I'm looking at putting in a cam before I install the motor into the Jeep however I am having trouble on choosing a cam appropriate for the CJ.

I'm looking for that distinct choppy idle really but HP increase is also a plus. I want to stay with a stock converter and the stock heads on the 5.3L. I will be installing headers as well.

Any suggestions?

The CJ will mostly be a trail rig w/ the occasional mud hole and street driven occasionally as well.

Thanks,

Ben

YouTube ms3 cam. Might be a bit big for your taste. I like the lingenfelter gt2-3 cam. It's bigger than a zo6 cam and would have a slight chop at idle in your smaller engine.

I'd assume you'd prefer more low end power for your application. The truck guys tend to stay in the 216-224 duration range for the 5.3. Look on the performancetrucks forums, they may be of more help than we can be here.

I went with the 224/228 on 112LSA in my 5.3 (also from an 02 Avalanche) 300ZX. Its got a nice choppy sound, but its a bit down on low-end power for a mud truck.
