good price for LS1 dropout??
I have a wrecked 98' Trans-Am w Ls1/A4 combo in it that I bought earlier this year, and I ended up with a different engine for my swap, so now I'm not going to use this one. While tempted to do another swap using this one, I simply don't have the time or funds for that, so I have been trying to sell it as a complete dropout. I so far have left it in the car so a potential buyer can listen to it run before I pull it.
My question is what is a good asking price? it has 112k mi. on it, it runs good and has no detectible noises, and is 100% stock never modded. I live in Central Ohio, which seems to be a hotbed of rodding, racing, and performance, yet I have advertised it several times locally, and even on here once without even a single looker yet. After cunsulting a friend I had priced is at $2800 which he feels is too low, hoping to sell quickly and get my money back I have tied up in it and get it out of my garage. Is that too low? or is he crazy?

I just picked up a 2002 LS1 with harness and computer for a manual car. I paid $1995 for the dropout. Here in Arizona the auto transmissions aren't worth much. maybe $500 used so I think your right in the neighborhood. I bought a t56 for $1000 and now have $3k into mine with the T56.

I am not trying to torpedo you here but I picked up my 98 LS-1 with 34k on it, with a t-56, new clutch, Painless harness, new computer, and a bunch of extras for $2500. YES, I got lucky!!! If you are patient and willing to talk real cash numbers it will sell... you are in the ball park for what you have. It took me almost 3 years to sell the built 5.0 motor that I had for my swap when I changed to the LS. That 5.0 has 10.5:1 pistons, ported heads, new everything and was dyno'd at 425hp. I got my money back but had to wait for the correct buyer. Relax, if you offer it, they will come.

A couple years ago I paid 1400 for a 34k milage drop out. Out of a totaled 01 ws6. The oil pan, power steering pump pulley and a couple coils were broke. The harness was all jacked up also. So had 2 pay 550 for harness n pcm. So in the end was around 2grand but a lot of messing around 2 make it rite.

Well, it seems prices vary quite a bit depending on where you live, and they are usually high around here. When I first started looking for a dropout I couldn't find ANY LS1 dropout locally for around $2k or less regardless of mileage unless it did not include the tranny, that's why I jumped on this car when it became avail. figuring once parted out I was in good shape, of course I really prefered a m6 rather than a a4 and ended up going with a different motor rather than swapping parts to save time and hassle when I found what I really wanted. The engine I'm actually using is a 2002 complete dropout with 30k mi. and a t56 that I got for $3500 + shipping, and had to get it shipped in from out AZ to get it at that price. Just couldn't find anything in Ohio at anything close to that price, that's why I was surprised I couldn't even get any lookers so far on the one I'm now selling.

There are a couple dozen LS1 T56 combos on eBay in the 3-5 K range, now if you are looking for better pricing or dirt cheap the deals are out there but you have to be patient or in the right place at the right time.
