Default Ford headers on LS1

Has anyone converted Ford headers to LS. I have heard that 351 Cleveland headers have the same primary spacing as LS ports. If they are it may be a option to start with, as I am planing on making my own headers for my swap.

I am not sure, but I think it's the small block headers that line up. But, if you are going to build your own, you can buy flanges from Summit for like $60 I think, and you can just build them out from there

Yea there are alot of choices for flanges. If it is just a matter of rerouting a couple primary tubes this would be the easy way to go. Other wise I will start from scratch.

It's the windsor engines that are the same port spacing. I used cheap ebay headers for my swap($75) and some 3/8" thick flanges.

I'm going to heat up the tubes and open the ports up with a 1/2 to 1 1/2" swedge I found at work

302 and windsor heads are the same except the head bolt size. you can drill 302 heads out to fit a 351 or use spacers to run 351 heads on a 302.

Then why does everyone use the 351W headers and not the 302? As the 302 are a lot cheaper

A 351 has a taller deck height than a 302 (9.5 vs 8.2) so the headers hug the block a little more for clearance around the steering shaft. As far as the heads are concerned you can swap them back and forth without an issues. Since I'm using 302 turbo manifolds I can mount the ls flange at almost any angle since steering shaft clearance is not an issue.

I think you can also find 351 headers with 1-3/4" primaries, the 302 headers are usually 1-5/8".

Thanks for clearing that up, first I heard it was small block Ford . Then someone said it was Cleveland. Do they make a Windsor turbo header?

I used 351w BBK, cut the flange off and put LSX flanges. fits like a glove. Now this was 6 years ago.

got the passenger side manifold welded up today. The flange got slightly warped. I'm going by a machine shop after work to get it straightened. I think a belt sander will straighten things out

Looking good nice welds , did you bolt the flange down to anything during the welds?

No I put the header in my back pack and walked in threw the gate. I got one of the plants welders to hook me up. I'm bringing the driver side in tomorrow I might see if he can clamp it to a piece of flat steel before welding
