Default volvo 242gt lq4 swap

Hello all! my name is brian and i have been into volvo's since i was about 15, this 242 was bought by my father as a gift to me when i was in highschool. i fell in love with it right away! it was always a headache on mechanical injection and somthing was always breaking. I have so much time and money in this car its sickening with its constant motor swapping ect. i always wanted to do a lsx swap and finally got out of the volvo power plants after going as far as i could with them.
this is what it looked like the day i got it, Clean rust free 242! bad paint and horrid interior but it loved the 'ish out of it

motor #1
Stock b21

engine #2
b21 11:1 compression with a stahl header and webber 45mm dcoe's

Engine #3
B230ft squirter block with a holset hy35 on megasquirt

with an adapter mustang transmission

engine #4
B230ft+16vt
this was a all out build
engine mounts that wont rip in half! and limit movement side to side

header tacked up
<a href="http://s265.beta.photobucket.com/user/2fast242gt/library/" target="_blank"><img src="http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii234/2fast242gt/001-28.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"/></a>
welded and ceramic coated

all built, h beam rods ect ect trying not to talk to much about a motor that has nothing to do with the car haha

OK! no now onto the car NOW.
the car now sits on BMW offset and bolt pattern BBS lm replicas 18x9 rear 18x8 front

one of a very few carbon hoods

i will be using it for amature drifting, no i wont smash it up! just safe stuff at a local joint

here was the engine on the way home 52k 6.0 lq4

got it home and took it appart besides heads for cleaning, i wire wheeled it and reshot it black. heads and cam will be later

installed a pickup tube gurdle

and installed the mast oil pan, it was needed due to space constraints

i then ordered a set of hooker cast headers, again not much space and these things fit perfect in there! also installed a fast 102 intake
overkill for now... but later i do plan on making this engine breath much more.

bent the base plates for the engine mounts, on all my builds i have put the mounts pretty far outwards, its helped to limit engine movement while still not putting much vibration into the chassis.

fast forward they are welded and painted

i then put he lump in the hole for a test fit as you can see the volvo power steering pump is still being used

The test fit showed it needed some cross member work, i cut two relief cuts and pushed the middle in a half inch and re welded it. this was done with the cross member out.

my father and i made the alternator bracket, no space to mount it anywhere else this is just a mock up alternator it will get a shiny new one.

clutch was ordered, a monster 11" with 18lb billet flywheel. This was ordered to my specs of a ford t-5 transmission... i know... weak... but it fits in the tunnel and i have a built up one not stock. If it blows / when it blows i can put a tko box in. the reason i used this transmission was because it fits the tunnel, i already had it from the last build! the driveshaft and crossmember are done ( from the last build ) so its an obvious choice!

quicktime bell

test fitted into the car.

slave clyinder bracket was made by me, its a cnc 305b it was a tight fit so i tryed to "massage" the tunnel in a bit... but with the tranny there i couldnt get a good swing. i managed to finagle it in for a test fit though.

the whole harness comes through this tiney old a/c grommet

the harness was something i was very picky about, i hand wired most of this cars chassis, note the gauges ect. right now im doing the headlights and after searching i found BP automotive, i bought a hand made harness from him. he is able to accommodate things like my alternator being down low on the passenger side and my map sensor being up front. its all new wire, not a weeded out factor harness. it also has all new connectors and a high quality fuse block and two fan relays. Very pleased with it so far even though i haven't ran it. he also re flashed my ecu and deleted the vats for a fair price highly recommend him
Bill @ BP automotive bpautomitive@hotmail.com if you're interested in a harness from him.

Nice fab work! I have been thinking about doing one of these as a sleeper project but don't know anything about them. My only experience with them is when I was a diesel mechanic. What rear are you running?
