Default alternator question

i have a question i have 5.3 swapped in my 1988 c1500 and im going to upgrade to the 5.3 alternator since i have my old 350 alternator jerry riged to work on it right now. My question is when i replace the alternator to the new style where would i plug the brown wire from my voltage gauges at. To read the voltage do i have to wire it in to lsx alternator harness or do i put it on the power distbution block to read the voltage. thank you

Your voltmeter in the dash is powered up through the instrument cluster. You shouldn't need to do anything to it for it to work.

only thing I'm aware of is the wire going to alternator to power it on. It doesn't receive 12v at all times, it needs more around 8v.. so a resistor is used in place so it doesn't make it fail premature. Since the factory pcm controlled this before, if the plug is still in the harness, just plug it in. if wiring standalone use a 470k resistor if you want it to last more than an hour.
