Default 64 chevelle /96 ss impala gas tank

a couple pictures
I had to cut the rear frame rails 5/8 inch on the inside and raise the trunk floor 2 3/8 inch in the area where the pump mounts , will need to figure a filler allso but it looks simple , passably the stock impala would work but I dont have it

You can use the stock Chevelle filler neck and a silicone sleeve to join the 2 together. I made a t to connect the vents together.

I put one of these in my 65 impala.

the vent with the fill tube is for while filling. unless you plan on filling slow, I would leave it. the pump vent is pretty small and if you use the charcoal filter, it does not pass gas (not fluid) through it very fast.

I went to napa and bought an angled fuel hose (I think 1 1/2") and then cut the fill neck shorter and then bolted it to the bumper then figured out the length of the 45 degree angled fuel hose. turned out good.

I had to build a box in the trunk for the top of my fuel pump also. Did you use longer carriage bolts?

looks good so far. Guessing you are using a corvette filter/regulator right out of the pump then a steel line to the front.

yes Leon vette filter regulator , thanks for the advise on the filler and vent Id hate to have to pump real slow , went with 1 inch longer carriage bolts and am running -6 an to the front , bought it before I figured out hard line on my first injected car a 72 chevelle with powerjection and a big block , Ill post more as I go , had an external pump on the other injected car ,it is very loud but runs great , this in tank I hope is much quieter

I used a 255lph BBK pump. You can barely hear it on initial startup sequence.

Nice job on the hump.

for the Filler neck. I use the Impala neck. I just cut the neck down some and then used the Hoses to join them back together. The Vent tube was easy to re-attach.

I just used two metal strap to secure it to the cross frame behind the bumper.

Thats good info for the next guy , as the previous info I received from a swap publication said the 96 impala tank was a "direct drop in " , not hardly , but will work with a few modifications

This is helpful, looking to start on my tank soon. Any insight on the factory B-body pump as far as performance goes? I was thinking i would just stick with it until I'm ready to upgrade to a Walbro 225...?

the B-Body is rated for a LT1 which IIRC is 47psi vs the Gen III/IV at 58psi. It might get you started ok. but I would think and your going to have problems.

But I have also read that some have successfully used them.. again.. research .... IMO I would not chance it.. as long as you have it out.. swap it now..

That is THE CLEANEST install of this B-body fuel tank I've seen in a Chevelle/Olds.

I put the same tank in my 1970 442 clone with the LY6/T56 setup.
I haven't completed the cover yet tho, and I tossed the piece I cut out.....like a dummy.
Now I gotta find a way to cover it up nice and clean......yours is sweet.

Man that looks great, I'm fixing to do this swap into my sons 71 chevelle after I show him his Christmas present out of a 02 vette.
1,000 bits of info here, but I think I'm going this route with the tank and racetronic pump n harness.
Now if I could make up mind on mounts n headers to bolt up to the turbo 350 tranny, back to searching.
But for real nice job on your tank.
