Default 1971 Firebird LM7 5.3L Swap

Hello all,

And it begins!

Picked up a cheap LM7 out of a 2003 Suburban with around 70k on it.

Been reading here for a while.

Any tips would be awesome! Thinking turbo!!

Scroll through my build. Should be very similar, I used an 03 silverado 4.8 with manifolds and DBW.

Will do.

Can the coils from the truck motor work or should I get some ls1 coils?

I use the truck coils. Even with the LS1 intake.

If I get an LS1 or LS6 intake can I use the DBW throttle body that came on my 03 LM7?

Also when getting a 4l60e should I look for one from 2003 or does that make a different with the computers?

Thanks,
Aaron

Trans won't matter, 98 up will bolt up and pcm controls will be the same. Throttle body will require different water pump and modification of accessory bracket to clear. Or you can go aftermarket.

So far I am going to be using the f-body accessory drive w/ f-body water pump. I plan on getting a ls6 intake and will need to buy a throttle body unless I can use the DBW truck one.

If you scroll thru my build I ued the truck accessories and the truck DBW TB with ls1 intake. Used LS1 pump and swapped the truck pulley. Made my own Idler relocator. The DBW TB will need to have a vent port blocked off to prevent air leaks but it will bolt on and work.

I would use the truck intake, unless you have clearance issues, the truck intake actually flow’s extremely well. My stroked LS1 with a truck intake made 40lbs more torque than a LS6 and a FAST intake and was just shy of 20hp total HP. The front assembly should fit in your chassis also. Depending on your budget, once you start changing thins around, so will the cost.
