4l70e or 4l80e for my 6.0 Chevelle swap
I'm in the process of building a LQ4 w/ LS3 top end. I plan to put it in a 68 Chevelle. A friend of mine happens to have 4L70E trans that he no longer needs. I'm not sure if I should go with that or buy a 4L80e instead. I am doing the swap, other than the programming myself. The end goal is to have 450+RWHP and the car will be only a weekend cruiser with the street/strip use. I'm not concerned with fuel economy, just want a nice cruiser with power and comfort. I know the 4L80e is larger and will probably require some trans tunnel surgery but I'm not sure if its worth the extra fab work. My biggest concern is I do not want to buy the 4l70e and it go out. From my understanding the LQ4/9's have tendency to destroy 4l60's and I have heard the 70's are not much different. Any thoughts or experience with this?
