Default 1997 Ford Crown Victoria LX, Turbocharged 6.0L Swap - Grandma's Bingo Cruiser

This is what happens when you have friends that give you ideas....lolz.

I work as a technican at at the local Ford Dealer, and happened to get ahold of a '97 Vic with a blown motor. Low mileage, excellent shape, and cheap!

Originally.....the plan was just to get a running motor installed and sell it, or keep it and drive it as the car only has 79K on it and is in VERY good shape!

Then......my friends gave me an even better idea:

She's not meant to break records or be stupid fast, just unique! ALL factory equipment works. Cruise/AC (pending line fabrication)/All stock Gauges/Warning Lights/Ect.

Hardware list:

2006 LQ4 - All stock Less PRC Dual Spring Kit
On3Performance Journal Bearing 76MM
4L80E with TransGo HD-2 Shift Kit
Stock 8.8" Rear with Mustang Tlock and F150 S-Spring
Stock 3.27 gears
Stock 4L80E Stall Converter
31x12x4" Air to Air FMIC

4250lbs with Driver

Here's my first track outing last year. 5psi, pump gas. This was also the last race of the year, and I only had 30lb injectors at the time, so only was able to make low boost passes:

Just a little video of me driving around and talking:

All in all i'm in love with the car, it's total sleeperish/modern and comfortible. There is lots of potential yet with it, as the turbo is restrictive vs. a more expensive unit, a good boost cam would do wonders as well as a converter and Tbrake.

Really it's just a fun cruiser. I'm hoping for 11 anything here in the coming weeks when the track opens up on 14psi and Race Gas, but only time will tell.

Thanks! Appreciate the kind words!

Although it's not as fast as some of my previous builds, man the fun factor is BEYOND what I had imagined! There is nothing like being with 4 of your friends and still pulling out on most modified sports cars...lolz. Tons of laughter have ensued in the cab of that Vic over the last few months indeed.

My plans are run it with this setup into the summer, then mid/late year switch out the cam and Turbo for more effective pieces. Maybe add a stall converter as well. I'd really like to see low 11's out of it on 14psi and Race Gas with those mods, but idk, she's heavy.

More GoPro's and updates to come as racing season gets under way around this area! The first track opening is this Friday!

Very cool swap! My favorite section on ls1 tech is the swap / hybrids.

Thanks!

Yes, it is truly amazing how popular this powerplant has become, there are swap parts for nearly everything nowdays! There wasn't even any fabrication involved on the mounts for this swap, I was able to purchase everything via aftermarket sources.

Looks like great fun, I love sleepers.

How does it drive? Is there a lot of lag or is it fairly instant. Where does the boost come in at?

The car is an absolute dream to drive, it's very smooth and stable even at high speeds.

I was shocked with the car's low end off of boost to be honest, the 6.0L definately helps get the pig moving, it's pretty decent all motor on takoff even with the stock 4L80E stall and 3.27's, my best 60' was a 1.99, average was a 2.0:

At first I did with some plate steel, but wasn't too happy with them as the stock pickup power steering pulley was very very close to the gearbox. I ended up going with the Dirty Dingo Motorsports adjustable mounts. They worked out great, even though they were designed for a Mustang.

The only thing I WISH I would have done....is about 6 months before this car came along at the dealership, we got a LIMO version in!!!!! Damn I wish I would have snached that up and did this swap to it instead!

Imagine having a Dry Martini with the turbo whistling in the background, while you and 20 friends pull on a Mustang......lolz.

lolz, yes sir it would be stupid sickness in a Limo no doudt, I lol hard everytime I think about it! I had even considered selling this one and DOING the Limo idea.....but there is a HUGE logistical problem....my shop won't allow the car to be fully inside..lolz.

I believe i've read through your build thread once a while back, it's the Tbird with the GEN III right?

Here's a video back when I was building it that helps demonstrate how it's all laid out. And I was fascinated with how I made the stock shifter work so that's why I focued on it so much in the video...

Walkaround with it completed:

Sounds like you need to build a bigger shop. Hahahaha!!!! I feel your pain on that one. My place is way too small, but it keeps me dry, warm and works well enough for now.

Yes, that's my car. Just a daily driver for the last three + years, nothing to see here.

Lol, I guess I never looked at it that way, yes, indeed a bigger shop is in order!

Thanks for the compliments guys!

Vs. a Bolton/tuned Camaro. Letting the Camaro have the hit:

I'm currently using HPTuners, but would love to switch to EFI Live.

Almost 4k miles on the build so far. Turbo seems to be doing great!
