Default 15 volts at idle - GM 1 wire

I don't have another volt meter to verify what my autometer guage is telling me, but should I be concerned with nearly 15 volts at idle and nearly 16 while driving? This is on a carb'd car with electric water pump, fuel pump, fan, and MSD box, and NOS Solenoids being the major electronics in the car.

I must admit I don't remember the voltage being so high until I ran the battery dead and used another vehicle to charge it via jumper cables.

GM 1-wire alternator and other than the guage reading way high everything seems to be working as normal.

Sounds high but verify with a 2nd voltmeter. Better yet dump the one wire.

My guess is bad regulator. Letting batteries die/get low is really hard on your alt. I'd double check with a second MM but if it's still high I'd have your alt checked out.

+1 on the internal Regulator, suggest taking it to a shop and have it tested.. O'Reilly or AutoZone will do it for free.. as will many regular parts store if they have the test equipement.

You can buy a cheap DVM... just to check out the voltage... or maybe one of your friends will lend you it.
