LQ4/T56 70 Chevelle Cam Specs?
Hey guys. its getting to be that time to tear down my engine and rebuild it before it goes back in my chevelle for good. right now its a stock lq4 with 80k miles on it. starting to put together a parts list and plan my build and in need of some advice.
its a 70 chevelle with a t56 and a 4.10 posi rear. i did long tube headers and cold air intake as part of the swap and switch to ls1 intake for looks. im kind of on a budget so i want to get the most bang for my buck but not go too over bored. i want to stay naturally aspirated and dont want to change the heads. the machine shop will prob punch it out .030 over and i will put flat top pistons in it. i will prob go to an ls6 intake.
its going to be street car and occasionally go to the track. i just want it to be a really fun car to drive and beak the tires loose in as many gears possible lol
so that being said what cam specs will be best for me? thanks in advance

any.....lol... almost anything off the used market place. 220 to 235 duration....anything inbetween there.......224, 228,232 all would work just fine and only require a spring change on the head. If your on a budget, and the pistons and rings are good....just use em unless you want to go nitrous or something else. Remember all the power an engine makes is above the piston. Its way better to pick up a used set of ported heads for 700 than spend 700 on boring, rings and pistons.....(and they will be more). A cam only lq4 can make 370-380...pretty easy at the tire. Good heads get you to 400 +- depending on cam choice at that point. For a 70 chevelle...I d error on the lower side for the cam, 228...ish...itll be 3600+ lbs.
Oh yea...stay under 600 lift....most of the cams with that duration will be 575 to 600...a few will be slightly higher....but again I d error on the smaller side.

that cam would be fine. Rollers dont really wear so buying used is ussually pretty safe too. A majority of the cams forsale will be close to those numbers, always people going bigger or smaller...
