Default Cherokee box into A-body

I know this has been discussed several times but I would like to know if anyone can tell me what years of jeep cherokee steering boxes are used in GM A bodies, and if it is certain models like just Cherokee or Grand Cherokee or both. I am building a '71 Chevelle. Thanks

Mine was a 1998 Grand Cherokee. Like above I believe it has to be a Grand. I think the years are form 1993-1998. Maybe 1992.

It needs to be from a Grand Cherokee. Here are the Alpha codes you need to look for. I picked mine from a 1998 model for $40.

1992.5-1993 Alpha code AL or BT
1994 Alpha code AL, BT, or PD
1995 Alpha code JH
1996 Alpha code KD
1997-1998 Alpha code WK or BT

The alpha code can be found on the sticker on top of the box. If you get it from a yard be sure to get the mounting bolts with it.

I put one in my 65 Sportwagon. Best bang for the buck. I went to the pick and pull and looked for the one with the lowest milage.

Mine is from a 1995 Grand Cherokee, but I believe 1989GTA has the right year range. Three bolts and sawzall to cut the 2 lines and adjustment sleeve and I had it on the ground in less than 10 min.

Yeah, the 92-98 Grand Cherokee is the way to go. I'm pretty sure you have to get a rag joint from a 75 Nova. Interestingly, the box also fit in my 68 Bonneville.

Yes, you can use a mid 80s G body hose with the truck power steering pump and jeep box. No adapters or modifications needed.

Think mine was from a 97 Leardo . Use 85 Monte Carlo hoses. They fit right on. I think on the return side I used a 96 Ford astro van hose.

Yes. The hoses from my Cherokee pump fit it perfect in my 66 Chevelle.

I was able to bend the original Z28 PS lines (1999 f-body LS1 and front accessories) to work with the JGC box.
