Default 6.0 l92 swap almost ready for install in my wagon

Well a few months ago I sold my SC 2008 g8gt and had been wanting to build a malibu wagon. Back in the 80's I built a 79 pro street malibu and just had to have another g body. I purchased a 82 Malibu w/4.8 swap from ebay. Most everything was there except for the hp/torque. I had orginally wanted to do a 70mm turbo but then changed my mind as I usually do. I started planning the 6.0 swap to make some nice hp. Purchased a new set of 823 l92 heads first along with a holley high ram. I took a comp cam on trade in. Then started collecting parts for the 2nd swap. I have most everything together now including a set of gbody Hustler long tubes, a set of TEA .660 valve spring kit, I sold the l92 heads off the ly6 I purchased in STL. and will now take the heads I purchased new to be ported along with matching the hi ram to the intake to help make them flow a little better. I also have an ATI 3000 converter I purchased from an LS1 tech member. I hope to have everything ready in a couple weeks to get started. I'll post some pics as I progress thru the build. The only thing I'm lacking is a fuel system, probably do a walbro in tank pump.

I don't know what the motor will make na, but just guessing 440 rwhp and I'm planning on at a later date to spray 150 shot. We'll see in a few weeks hopefully if everything goes ok.

Thanks guys, hope to have more updates in the near future. Need to drop it a little more also, I did the QA1 front coil over kit to get rid of the old springs and shocks and it handles and ride much better then it did when I purchased it. I also changed the wheels from the original owner, didn't really like those either. Still have some interior work to get done as its not up to my standard on how it should look. Plenty to do and of course more money to spend. I'll get there soon. I'll try to get some pics of the new motor parts up this weekend

88 what mods are you doing to the motor? I'm trying to figure out what in tank pump to use. I have everything else here or ordered. I just got my new hedmann hustlers, they are a nice piece and supposedly fit perfectly on the gbody's. However they are expensive. Are you on the maliburacing forum?

I went with the racetronix sending unit/340 (iirc) walbro pump. One size bigger than the 255. I believe the 255 is rated up to 500-550 HP. The 340 is rated 800+ I believe. I went with that just for the fact I'm looking at a 403/417 baseline on my stock l92 but now with a cam swap and other bolt one, looking for over 500+ .

Rather get one bigger than needed just for the future imo

Thats probably a wise move and I'll probably go a simular route because I do plan on spraying in the near future. Do you remember what all that cost?

Beautiful wagon. Did you happen to check your MPG's with the 4.8L?

Good looking car, I seem your ad on Craigslist trying to sell the 4.8. Friend of mine has a 79 with a BBC but has a 5.3 to swap in it in the future.

It gets about 18 mpg, its running 2600 rpms at 75. I'm going to change the gears in the 8.8 when it make the swap, 373's now and will probably go to 355 or 331 since I'm going to spray it at some point in the future. Its a street car so I'd like to drop the rpms at least 200-300 r's or more. The 4.8's only got 29,000 miles. I bought the 6.0 and its got 90k and cylinders look great and the 823 heads are brand new so should be it good shape for a lot of miles in the future.

I believe it was 379-400 shipped with the hot wire kit. I'd rather be safe and get one that outflows than one that under performs lol

Got my Hedman Hustler long tubes and took my heads to get them ported. Then I got a call from him letting me know I have to have them milled 20 thou. I purchased them a couple weeks back and was assured the scratches and nicks on the new heads wouldn't be an issue. So that didn't work out so well and now I have to spend another 150 at least to have them surfaced so they can finish the porting. Oh well, **** happens and not real happy about it.

Got my l92 heads back from Randy Richards Porting and man they flowed awsome. Randy was pretty impressed with this set of heads, he also installed the TEA spring kit. This motor should make some great hp and torque should be bitchin with the Holley Hi Ram Intake. Getting excited about getting the new motor in. I'm sure the tranny will need some attention this winter after this motor puts a **** load of stress on it.
