Default 98 silverado lsx swap, can i take a new 5.0?

Finally picked atruck, 98 Silverado z71 extended cab for aproject truck. My soul purpose is to have a dependable truck I take tothe mountains and rod around in my hometown on the weekends. 5.0 stangs are all over my town and I'd love nothing more than spank them in my old silvy. To the point how much power are we talking thru a turbo ls will get the job done. Thanks all -zane

Depends on the LS and the turbo, but I would imagine a 5.3 with somewhere around 12-14 psi of boost would get the job done easily in that truck. All depends on if you have monster jacked up tires and such, how much it weighs, etc. There is a guy on here with a silverado going into the 9s in the 1/4!

Build it to run bottom 12s to beat the bolt on cars...high 11s to beat mostly full bolt on cars.

New 5.0s are no slouch

Stock 5.0s are 12 second cars. There are bolt-on 5.0s in the 11s. They're not slow cars, when driven well. You better set the suspension up too, so you can take them out from a dig.

I am wondering what transmission to go with... I have done an ls swap before into a 3rd gen Camaro so I know what im up against. I would prefer a 6.0 or 6.2 but the transmission is where im stuck at. I want a 6l80 but I don't think its up to the task of a turbo... at least not for long. from what ive read there isn't a whole lot of upgrades for the 6speed auto, yet. the truck will not be lifted. basically a Silverado ss style wheel tire setup. the truck is HEAVY. extended cab 4x4. any input on what to go with on a transmission?

My buddies 98 silverado ran well with a efi 6.0. Had a LS1 cam and very light touched stock heads. Ran 9.6s in the 1/8th. **** poor 60 foot times. So, with converter, cam, better gears, it should give a stock 6.0 a hard time. Last one I ran went 8.3s on radials at the 1/8th mile. (my 5.3 swapped 86 TA killed it). So it is not hard with the right parts.
