^the 862 heads or 241s? From what everybody's telling me I'm not gaining anything with the 241s so ill prolly just pick up the bare 862s and swap over my valves etc

well funny story, i bought some degreaser and cleaner from home depot and set one of the heads in it to "soak" over night. just wanted to clean off the carbon and dirt, when i pulled it out of the degreaser the next morning there was about 1/16" eaten off of the head all the way around where the degreaser was! i took it to a machine shop and they said that it was trash! so now i have to pick up another set, just my luck. but i did come across a good deal with a local guy. im picking them up tommorow.

What degreaser did you use, it wasnt purple power was it ? The great thing about these 5.3 heads there are plenty around and they are cheap. Are you going to put bigger valves in them ?

it was the home depot knock off of purple power. and no plans for bigger valves. i was looking around the internet for oil pan options and i found auto zone has a f body oil pan for 59.99? it says its metal and doesn't have the oil level sensor hole, they also have the oil pickup tube for 69.99, if i went this route only other things i would need is windage tray and oil tube and dipstick, has anybody used their pan? seems to good to be true?59.99

I don't know about AZ F body pan . But you can find complete used ones for $200 if look in classified ads. When you start adding all the acessories it starts to add up real quick.

IIRC I believe they will but check the part # to be sure . Have you considered this oil pan.

Wow! Had not seen that, that's by far the cheapest pan kit I've seen. Has anyone tried it on a 2nd gen camaro? It says it will fit 55-95 gm veh but just wondering.

Also want to give a big thank you to Steve at Lunati for helping me out with a cam and valve springs! I would recommend him to anyone looking for a cam and some very good advice.

Just searched muscle car pan on nasty z and all say it hangs to low . My car is lowered so I think I have no choice but to go with f body pan. Although I have seen some people cut the truck pan and pick up tube.

You HAVE to use a car intake.
The truck intake sits to high.

I would recommend using a camaro oil pan.
It fits like it was made for the 2nd gen camaro.
