Default Intake ports look black

LQ9 dropout 127K, test run, no smoke. Took intake manifold off and the head ports look darker, almost black,.....not wet at all.

I am "old school" and we used to look at plugs, exhaust, and such to read them. As far as I know that does not apply to a FI engine....

Did a search on "intake runners" nothing really came up.

Should I be concerned, or just clean them up and go.....trying not to tear into this thing too far....and once you start....

Does it look anything like this?

My first (and later) LQ9 has less miles than yours and that's what it looked like when I brought it home. My theory is that the recirculation of crankcase vapor (and inevitably oil), builds up like this. You can see where the injector spray keeps the walls at the top of the port clean.

Nope. Still applies.

my posts look similar to the picture, but the spray pattern is not as large. Probably due to injectors dirty or just the way they sprayed......
