Subscribed. Whats the odds of me thinking of doing this same swap and look over and see someone starting it. Awesome. Only thing that changed my mind was that it weighs appx. 4,900 lbs. Good luck. Gonna be ****.

Following along. Have a 65 Galaxie I want to do a swap into. Either a 5.3 or a 6.0 but I'll be using a 4L60. The 65 has the same rear steer so I figured I'd need a GTO pan too.

If you are just doing it for cruising, why not get the 4.8? They are cheaper and make almost the same horsepower and torque. Plus it'll mess with people's heads when you tell them it is just a 4.8. And the money you save could get you a good cam and springs to pump the power up above the 5.3............

Got some more done today. Cut the GTO pan up and had all kinds of room. Also trimmed the crossmember a little

Took seat and carpet out

Definitely gonna have room for a v12 LS1!!!

cant afford them yet but trying to search for a thread to show what heads fit what.
i wanna satisfy my curiosity.
what heads fit the 5.3 i found on her the L98 heads dont fit.
my friend HazzMatt put 799 "zo6" heads, springs and cam in his 5.3
i got his old 5.3 heads with zo6 springs in a trade. was gonna port those later and put those on this engine along with the MLS gaskets i got and ARP head studs.

my goal is to get it running and driving on low boost. and get it all the bugs worked out. then tear it apart, paint it, newer suspension and C6 ZO6 brakes all the way around.

but im the kinda guy that likes collecting parts. i love the looks of the LS7 and especially the Holley tunnel ram intake look! i did find out on here that stock truck intake and TB is good for good HP and that money can be spent elsewhere. so i was thinking of doing the heads first. but if a good port job on these stock heads is good then so be it.

HazzMatts 5.3 is nuts with a turbo. even without a turbo. so i can copy his but i want just wanna know more about these engine and what fits what so if i come across it in the future i can pick it up

thanks

so if someone can lead me in the right direction as for what heads will fit 5.3's and

Re tried the motor and trans after cutting the pan and cross member. Looks like I won't have to cut the trans tunnel

Ran out of time today but gonna square everything up tomorrow and burn the mounts in.

Look at all this room! Think this where the turbos are going.

If I am right, ANY cathedral port head will fit the 5.3. As for the rectangle port heads, I have no clue. But you can get a set like whats on your engine worked over by Total Engine Airflow (TEA) and they will flow as good as or better than any stock casting head out there, if I read the article I have here somewhere right.

After porting and polishing they flow something like 320+ intake and 300+ exhaust. But don't quote me on those numbers. Let me locate the article and I will let you know.

Damn, I've been looking for a clean continental for a while. I sold my last one when I had nowhere to store it 8 years ago, big mistake. Why didn't you put a normal f body oil pan on it and put the motor back more?

thanks guys.

and i i wanted to push it back but i would have to cut the **** out of the trans tunnel and relocate the brake booster and steering gear box. i dont wanna do that... right now. later when i get tired of the LS motor and have more time and money i wanna gut this thing. put it on a custom art morrison frame and a built diesel drive train. prob a built 6.0 or 6.7. dunno but thats far into the future. right now just gonna be a fun noise maker/daily driver so i put the motor in the orginal location where the 430ci big block was.

well.... got the engine mounts tacked in place. trying to set the level/degrees on the engine and trans... did have to trim the trans tunnel... but only because i didnt want to cut the oil and trans pans because they would hang down too low... this car will be bagged... some day much later on. and i dont wanna worry about the pans. hope the trans yoke comes in soon so i can get a drive shaft made when the trans mount is done

I havent started yet just collecting parts. Looking at an ls3/t56 built, probably n/a for awhile. Losing my my color gauges is gonna suck but I think a haltech race gauge will fit nicely in its place
