Default Rule of thumb minimum engine compartment measurements ?

Been researching an LSx swap, with the intention of building a lifted Toyota 4x4. As a result, I have not worried to much about oil pan and hood clearances. Still looking for the right truck to start this build and came across this CL listing for a Triumph

http://anchorage.craigslist.org/cto/4200324369.html

Seems absolutely insane and remarkably poor judgement to install a V8 ....... But just for discussion purposes....... are there any general rule of thumb minimum top-to-bottom and side-to-side dimensions required?

There are some rough dimensions listed in that thread. I believe there are a few LS Triumphs on this forum.
