At the track, I was so impressed with the car, I only checked air gap one time. The clutch was too tight and wasn't working as intended but I was just trying to make a clean pass without getting on the limiter. That never happened. I have new adjustments to try next time out.

Btw, the alternator is charging between 13.8 and 14.4 volts.
Glad you got the alternator working well. Did you end up wiring up the S terminal?

Below the brass brake line fitting. Nothing special. I cut a hole in the factory grommet but may get a new one from summit. Please excuse the pollen, it's crazy down here right now.

Awesome build ssstang#1. I am in the planning stages of a motor this size for my 05 GTO almost identical parts except the intake. i am probably going to use an MSD intake from Mast. I want to keep it under my stock GTO hood.

Really really nice work on all the mods too! Lots of patience on the oil pan mod and the screwed up tubular K from TeamZ.

Are you by chance running radial front skinnies and bias ply rear tires?

Yes. I know it isn't recommended but I think the two factors that caused it were 1. I hate to admit this, I still have a Traction Lock differential with 31 spline C clip axles and 2. The Tokikos adjustable shocks did not keep the tires planted and, as can be seen in the driveshaft speed, traction was limited throughout the run. Just before the 1000', the car was pulling to the right so I let off and when I got back in it the tires spun and it headed left toward the wall. The car switched back four or five times, getting more out of shape each time until the rear quarter finally tagged the wall.

This sounds exactly like what my RX7 did when I had radials on the front and bias ply slicks. It scared me so bad I stopped going to the track. Then I installed bias ply front tires and it was as straight as an arrow. Food for thought...

Wow, what a thread read. Just got done with the whole thing! Damn, that car is stout! Amazing work! Sorry to hear you got into the wall, but as you said, it could have been a lot worse. I had never heard about the radials on the front with bias in the rear being a problem, but glad to hear about that, and will stay away from that as a combo.
Glad to see it's almost back together!

What made you pull a piston and check the ring gap?
