Default (sold) 1961 Series 62 Coupe Build Thread

I wasn't really ready to post this, but a couple people have requested it, so here it is.

I bought a 1961 Cadillac Series 62 Coupe this past weekend. I had been looking on and off for a car to build and after coming across a good deal on a L96 and 6L90E with only had 2,000 miles on it, I figured I should probably locate a car. After looking through and placing ads on craigslist and looking at ebay, I managed to find a car locally. It's been sitting for five years so I had it towed home. I dropped a little gas in the carb and it fired right up. The previous owner says the motor smokes real bad, which I have not yet confirmed, but that made me feel that much less guilty about doing a swap. It will be a few weeks before I get her in the garage and start pulling out the old motor and trans in order to do the transplant. Since this is not a popular swap and it does not appear to be any "kits", it will be a lot of trial and error. The end result I am shooting for is a fun and reliable daily driver that rides as smooth as you would expect from a Cadillac.

Link to post 17 that has the connection wiring diagram

Parts List:
Motor: L96
Trans: 6L90E
Intake: Stock (may upgrade)
Rad & Fans: 2000 Camaro (tenative, using them in my Firebird build)
Wheels: Not sure if I am going to keep the 20" spokes or not
Everything else is still up in the air
Tentative:
Cold a/c, maybe a front and rear system, as long as it will work off of one compressor
Edge CS instead of regular gauges. This plugs into ODBII and will tell me everything I need to know.

The goal is to take this to Monterey Aug '15 for the Historics.

That should make that car into an excellent daily driver. I'm building a 55 series 62 right now with big olds power. I will be following your build

I love the car. I've never seen one before. I take it, it is a X frame? Please add more pics of the car. Very cool ride. Airride anyone….?

Yes, it is an X-frame. I am thinking about an air set up, but that's probably a little later down the line.

Not much going on with this, more attention being focused on the Firebird these days.

Got a call yesterday that the motor and trans will be delivered on 4/2! Now hopefully my lift will be up and running and I can start working on another project I really don't have the time for!

Motor arrived today. The TC was hanging off the front of the pallet, looks like the shipping company might have gotten a little rough on it.

Finally had some time to get her up on the lift. Looks like ~50 years worth of gunk under there.

That looks very similar to my 61 Impala under the skin, but you have different style control arms. Should be a fun car when it's comlete.

I really don't think I want to keep the 20's. I do want white wall, and I want to fit bigger brakes, and I want a Cadillac-type ride. I think the biggest I'm probably going to go is 17. It just depends on what wheels I find as I really like the "turbine" look of the stock hubcaps.

Wiring instructions for those that are considering a swap and want to know what's involved.

Thanks! I like what you are doing so far. I'm hoping to avoid chopping up the front. If I go that far, I might do some sort of conversion like a Crown Vic or Mustang II, depending on what will fit. The big problem lately is lack of time. Anyhow, I am following your build and I can't wait to see how it comes out. There are a couple of other guys doing these early Cadillacs as well.

Well, I ended up selling the Cadillac. I still have the L96, now I either need to sell it or find something to put it in.
