Default How many amps should a LS starter draw while cranking?

I've got a 2ga battery wire from starter post to positive + side of battery and I put a 100amp circuit breaker in line to basically be the "fuse" in the main system and last night while firing up the car it tripped the breaker a couple of times if it had to crank for more than a second or two.

Is that way too low of a breaker? Do I even need a breaker inline?

thanks,

I think summer is 200-250a, but winter could be 400-500. I wouldnt bother with a breaker. If you short it the solenoid will probably disengage from the voltage drop from the battery (click click click click...).

Electrically speaking, a 3.5 HP starter motor equates to 2610 watts. At 14v, that's pulling 186 Amps or at 12v it's pulling 217 Amps. All this ASSumes adequate wire size and great cable connections, any "extra" resistance will drive up the amp load...
