Need advise on LQ4 - 2000 vs 2003
i've acquired two inexpensive LQ4 engines for a turbo build i would like to put in a 1984 Trans Am and need some input from you guys.
the first engine is a 2003 LQ4. it is a complete engine, but did not come with a computer, any of the wiring or DBW stuff. it has the aluminum heads. the other one is a 2000 LQ4 that is a complete pull-out with computer, wiring and 4L80E transmission. this engine has cast heads and a cable driven throttle body.
from what i've read here, the 2000 engine has a longer crank. should i (or can i) use all of the 2000 LQ4 wiring, sensors, etc... on the 2003 LQ4 to avoid using the longer crank block and cast heads? does it really matter or no? i'll be installing the typical items needed to fit the engine in a car: F-body intake, oil pan, front accessories, etc...
any help / advise would be greatly appreciated.

You could go either way. I would go with the 03 for the aluminum heads and the benefits they offer. If it makes it easier I have a PCM, DBW throttle body, modified pedal assembly and TAC that I am no longer using. The PCM is already modified with removal of VATS, and rear o2's. It has a forced induction tune in it already. I for 1 think DBW is a great way to go in any swap.

I would go for the aluminium. No difference in the heads as fas as numbers go but aluminium dissipates heat better than cast and that means, mo better. Not a big difference in the LQ4 til 2005 and they have a little beefier rods and they are pinned to the pistons not pressed. Just a little FYI for the future. Good luck

I have the '00 and would have preferred the 03 for the aluminum heads and the longer crankshaft...though I need the longer crankshaft for the T56 trans.
Isn't the longer crankshaft mainly just a removable adapter/spacer?
