Default Ballpark Cost to Have a Drive Shaft Shortented

I got a price of about $170 to shorten a stock '69 Firebird d/s and was thinking that was a little high. It does include new U joints, which are about $25 each and putting the 4L80E yoke on it. Thoughts?

My local shop shortens for 50 bucks.
UJoints are around 15 for Spicer 1310's installed

Does that price include the 4l80E yoke or are you supplying it? If it includes it then that sounds reasonable to me.

So how much for a brand new steel shaft, or even an aluminum one?

I have a guy locally who builds 3" steel custom drive shafts starting around 170 or so depending on length and a few other things.

I went through the same thing. Modifying was going to be only $20 cheaper than new when you add up U joints, yoke, etc.
I went with these guys:

I did a 3" aluminum driveshaft with u-joints from PST for $240 plus shipping. Nice piece and plenty strong for the most part.

My $.02:
A "stock" 69 shaft, and you are hooking it up to a 4L80?? How much power R U going to put thru it?
If that shaft is really a "69 model", it's way past time to replace it. [Assuming U have the power.]
