Default best buy on oil pan

OK guys, the truck pan is 8.5 inches deep and the f-body or 5 or 5.5 inches deep i believe. I saw an oil pan on e-bay at a good price, i sent the guy an e-mail asking the guy about the dimensions He told me that it was an inch shorter than the truck pan ??? Where can I get the 5 or 5.5 inch deep oil pan at a good price??? Don't want to buy something that does not work for me.

The third sticky down in C&H forum is all about LSX oil pans. Lots of info and experience there.

The muscle car oil pan which is the h3 pan is the cheapest that I have seen and comes with everything.

Cheapest might be the lowest profile. The vette 02 winged pan typically goes for around $100-125 used with pickup. Ironic, because new, they were over $700.

Measure before you buy the H3/muscle car pan. It hangs low. I am not familiar with what "51 Chevy" you are putting a LS engine in. Truck? Probably any pan will work. car? I'd steer clear of the H3 pan!

First page is helpful...lots of used f body or ctsV pans out there on eBay from time to time.

CTS-V used pans are usually pretty cheap if that is short enough for you.

You can get the entire f-body pan set up brand new from here. Be sure to look to the right and add the other stuff you need. All for under 300 bucks.

Depending on how cheap you want to go, and how patient you are, maybe look for a 4th gen fbody in the boneyard. Look up any of the smaller LSx equiped suvs ( TBSS or its buick brother, v8 isuzu trooper, etc) and see if you can find one of those in the yard. Light trucks and vans should be relatively plentiful. If you can get to central indiana, there is a heavy truck boneyard in Spencer called "truck parts unlimited." It might be worth giving them a call.

H3 won't work for my install, I have the truck pan which has the same issue "too deep". I need the low profile. steered clear of E-bay a lot of stuff out there but when I inquired some were closely misleading!!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! That is the H3 pan!

I had my f body pan notched to clear my crossmember. You may need to do that as well. Can you put the engine in just to see or estimate what will work? Street & Performace notched my pan. You may want to check them out. They may have some advice.

My engine is in , the truck is running. The issue us the truck pan is just too low. put a pin hole in it while dolly trailering it around before got it running. I was going to change it out anyway. I need the f-body for the clearance. I don't think cross member will be an issue.

Do you think the CTSV pan will work for you? It's about the cheapest you can get around $200 complete and is almost like a regular v8 oil pan. If not looks like $300 for an Fbody or $400+ for the aftermarket ones like holly etc...

Where are you located? I might be switching from my CTS-V pan to the holley. I think the CTS-V would be fine for most practical purposes but with the air ride I want as little as possible lower than the frame.
