I was all ready to take the Camaro to the tuner and have them tell me how it's running and put a good tune in it before putting it on the dyno yesterday.
As soon as they heard that I stupidly put Marine Sta-Bil in a full tank of gas when I put it to bed in the Fall, they nixed my tune. I just started driving it this week.

I know, I know...
But it was a habit from the carburetor days before I did the swap. I learned a lesson. From now on NO Sta-Bil... just fill the tank and be done with it.

Now I have to burn 18 gallons before I can reschedule, and I wanted to have it done before the Power Tour.

Sta-Bil is for lawn mowers.... or boats.

Unhook the fuel line and pump it out. Then go get your tune.

Dont feel bad , I have to get and install a new engine harness , drive 400 miles to break in engine , have it tuned and a bunch of other little things ( just back from paint ) when are you leaving N Y for tour? and where are you located ? a few are leaving on friday morning, planning to long haul. JOHN

Yeah, there's several ways I can drain the tank.
And I just had it on the floor last weekend replacing a fuel line dammit!!

Me and a buddy aren't going till Monday... meeting up with the tour in Charleston, then up to Norwalk and then home Wed. Leaving from Rochester. I'm trying to get some car club members to go with us, but we have our big summer show the day before on Sunday.

Find a new tuner.

Edit: I mean. Find someone who understands the chemical process of water absorption, phase separation, and the basic chemical properties of fuel stabilizers. There are better stabilizers on the market, but all work in pretty much the same way. None of them will have an effect on your tuning.

Tuner likely was unjustifiably concerned of wideband 02 sensor contamination or the change in afr due to additives. I would not drain anything and just go tell him it's removed and let him tune away.

I'd be more concerned about getting it tuned with with 6-7 month old gas, even with StaBil in it it's octane rating my have degraded some in that time.

I guess it depends. Any amine-based stabilizer is better than none at all, for a car that is not driven often. In this car, it should be tuned for real-world. Which sounds to me like driving it every so often, and having a tank of gas in it for a long time.

As to the contamination of the Wideband O2 sensors. More myth than fact. Amines do not contribute to or negate from fuel properties. They are completely combustible, and ashless. The benefits of sludge prevention and anti-corrosion far outweigh any myth that might be conjured up.

I would find another tunner for sure. I'm doing the long haul in my 71 C-10 with LQ4 6.0 4L80E just installed in Janurary.

keep using it when storing this poor excuse for fuel we have these days. everything at my place gets treated before a winter snooze.
