I stopped and looked at the Monte on Power Tour and have to say it's amazing how tight the headers and exhaust are to the car. I also looked at the Monte at the Chevy performance booth and though it was funny how low it's headers hung, I asked one of the guys at the booth where they got the headers and was told they were custom made by another sponsor of this board just for that car.

I'm glad you got a first-hand look at everything Fry as you will be able to provide independent feedback here/other places to guys who may be considering using the Hooker system of parts.

Why did you change it? Direction from marketing? I much prefer the modern plenum set up you had on the car.

It was changed to test some new products, which happens quite frequently with our project cars.

I just wanted to give an update for those interested that may have different engine mounts but still need a 4l80e tranny crossmember. I am using Moroso solid mounts (trying to find the parts numbers) with Car Shop 1" setback plates and the Holley (Hooker) trans crossmember with a Prothane tranny mount.

While it may not be mounted 100% like what Holley has you do, it was very straightforward. If you have a Gbody that has provisions for a 200R4 trans then you should be able to grab three out of the four needed mounting points for the crossmember. The fourth bolt is mounted with an adapter bracket supplied by Holley. It really was ridiculously simple with only a couple extra holes drilled through the frame.

Sorry for the crappy pics but if you have any questions please ask away!!!

I was able to grab three pre-existing bolt holes for the trans crossmember and adapted one of the holley brackets to get the fourth...pretty damn simple actually!

Sorry for the crappy pics...tried a video but I'm too fat and it was too dark to see detail so I will work on that for next time.

I also have a set of holley/hooker Gbody headers for sale. They are the stainless 1.875" variety tho as well as the engine swap brackets. Headers are brand new in box. Over $1000 spent on them, will give anyone a good deal on them once I know shipping location if interested.

Will these headers work on my 81 Malibu 6.0 swap?

They surely will if you are using the Hooker G-body engine brackets, but I can't say in regards to any other type/brand of engine mounts/plates.

I used the plate style mounts. Any ideas on what headers I could use? If you have any links that would help.

Ok I just wanted to be sure I could use those headers even though I didn't use the hooker engine mounts/brackets.

As I mentioned previously, there is no guarantee they will work with any type/brand of mounts...the engine placement provided by the Hooker G-body engine brackets and the unique geometry of the brackets themselves are what those Hooker headers were designed around.

Hey Guys,

I have a set of 1.875" stainless Hooker Swap Headers for sale at the link below for anyone that is interested...brand spankin' new! Also have the engine mounts and poly isolators for the clamshell. Spent over $1K for just the headers, looking to make someone a really good deal. See below:

Link to headers for sale

Ended up going twin turbo...see couple posts up.

Thanks,
Dave

Did you test fit these headers with the 1" setback mounts?

I have not test fit them on the 1" plates. I only took the passenger side out of the box to marvel. I will say this though. I have the swap engine plates, poly clamshell fills and the frame mounts that I will let go for less than the cost of just the headers. Basically buying headers brand new and getting the mounts for free...that is a ridiculous deal!

I also have the 302-2 pan but I am not ready to give that up yet.

I may try and test fit them, but I am nervous about scratching them during install. I may tape them up and test fit if that helps sell them, but people shouldn't expect to get these for $600 or something like that...they are top of the line as far as choices go.

Thanks,
Dave

If they fit with 1" setback plates I would possibly be interested in them. If your not comfortable test fitting them Thats no big deal.
