I seen this car on ebay. First of all I would love to own a LSX swapped 944, they are amazing machines. I personally would not even pay 17K for this particular car and here is why.

This was a straight budget build. They made this car with the intention of selling it and not enjoying it. It's really a truck block. Pics on ebay showed rusted pulleys on it. The paint isn't show quality by any means, actually looks low grade or maybe it needs to be wet-sanded better. Everything on it appears to be Knockof, used, painted over from the Engine, Seats, most likely down to the suspension parts since they are not listed in the ad. I'M A TOUGH SELL SELL WHEN IT COMES TO THESE CARS.

Looks to be about 30 grand worth of cleaning, painting and detailing there. Would be hard to duplicate for that price imo.

Not unusual to find clean 944s with blown motors (timing chain) for around $2k. Add Renegade adapters, motor, etc. Pretty easy to put together under $10k. Although I probably would only use the turbo transaxle because of better gear ratios.

If it was a 996 turbo version with an LS3 then maybe.

Looks cool at first. No heat no A/C really limits the fun factor depending upon where you live.

I have a LS1 944, and it's not done like this.
This was a straight budget build.
I agree. The issues I see here are first and foremost, the brakes. While it has upgraded Turbo / S2 calipers, he has done nothing to replace the vacuum boost assist he has removed. It is generally considered unacceptable to remove the vacuum assist and just bolt the master cylinder to the fire wall. Proper LS1 944 swaps use a 2000ish Mustang GT Hydroboost, or better yet a BMW 7series Hydroboost system (which I've used). Second, is the iron block. These cars are known for balance, which can be retained with a proper swap. The iron block is a show stopper for retaining balance.

Having said all this, is it a fun car? You bet. Just be careful stopping it.

Gord.

Ya with the issues stated above I dunno if its work 30k. Clean yes, but built properly? Eh, 50/50 weight is how these cars were built. My grandma has a 951 (944 turbo) and outa the box for its time was hard to beat. Big 4 wheel discs, you gotta have that booster. But there sure is a helluva lot less stuff in there with an LS. The heat and A/C I would have kept. Mount that compressor up top and the lines are easy enough, they run around the engine compartment from the factory.

Having that LS up there as opposed to the turbo 4 is nice though. From teh factory lag is hoorrible, boost comes on at 3k and you run outa cam at 5500ish, its kinda wonky, because german. And I prefer the turbo bumpers and the 86+ dash. Much more modern

Considering theres a guy selling a 911 on here with a LS for 25k.... I'd say that No, the 944 is not worth 30k.

Exactly... It's amazing how people honestly can't tell the difference between a car that was built to sell and make money, or built with quality and enjoy. This was built for under 10k. I could build this car with my buddy for under 10k with these parts in a few weekends.

Maybe 20k with AC, but I'd still would require them to really convince me was even worth that much!

Default A 944 with GM V8

I have completed this swap on my 1987 Porsche 944 which I will say is awesome! If you have the means to do it and have it done right you will have and very nice and dependable street machine. I personally will never sell my car but if I did, $30 grand would be out of the question. My car was built buy a professional using the all aluminum 5.7L with the hydro boost braking system from the Mustang Cobra. The guys at Texas Performance Concepts is where I purchased the entire deluxe kit to perform this swap. My car was built to be driven on the streets and it is fast! All I will say is that at $30 grand I can build 3 more cars! I would just simply enjoy driving something that not a lot of people can say that they have even seen up close. Don't sell it! Drive it! You will not be dissatisfied with the results.

I'm almost finished with my LS1 951 racecar and I see some stuff that makes me believe this car was built just to flip.
Super clean, but a little too ricey for my tastes.
