Been a headache lately. Car needs a control arm, that finally showed up today, way too low to drive on Mi roads, & the procharger spun the balancer, so a pin kit is on its way.

Also, spoke with Eric over at Ohlins and had a Road & Track Coilover set custom valved for my build!

Put on the new tails while I was bored. Bumpers just chillen on it, no point in putting it all together just to take it all off again.
Also got a glimpse of some rotary purists hating on the swap cause they're bout the stance life. Oh well, putting my money into function before I worry about the paint and bumpers and aesthetics. All show no go lol

So I put on the new wheels. Bumper is just chillen on it.
Took some pics.

Towed her over to where a couple of my friends work, changed out the control arm, did the alignment & used an "air lift" for the radiator fluid.

Got it running and finally took it for its first drive!

Exhaust clip -

Pulling it out of the garage

1-3 pull

1-4 pull

So after our test run we drained the oil & put fresh oil in again.

This time we hear something in the bottom end.

****.

Same thing happened to my buddy Joe. He works at the Chevy dealer with one of my good friends since we were kids, Kevin. He called "rod 6 or 7" also. Turns out its both.

Time to call in some favors.

Only visual damage you can see is the bearings, rods 6 & 7, and the crank itself.

I already have a Gen IV rotating assembly ready to go in. Bearings were ordered today.
Given that this block is an L76 and the rotating assembly has the -2cc (?) valve reliefs, I'm curious what the compression ratio is with the 799 heads. May be wise to sell them for some 317s.

Just realized you're in Walled Lake Red GTA. Right there at Pontiac Trail & Beck. Gonna be moving to Northville in 2 weeks but you'll have to come check out the build when shes back home!

Motors finally disassembled, gonna have to get it cleaned which puts me back until Tuesday to take it to the shop because of memorial day weekend.

Been doing some other small things on the side for the car.
Swapped some MazdaSpeed Seats into the RX8.

Also swapped lenses on the headlights from my original roller that had tons of dirt and corrosion IN the headlights.

Yea, I know that area pretty well. Have you tried Gino's pizza yet?, they're where Papa's used to be on the north side of Pontiac Trail.

glad you're making progress, though a shame the holiday is going to put you back.

No sir. I'm extremely picky with my pizza & burgers since I'm a fitness nut & gotta try to eat clean. Very rarely do I risk my precious cheat meal on a place I haven't tried yet.

Alex's is pretty good. But I'm a Dolly's and Primo's guy at heart. Grew up in Livonia with em. Unfortunately I'm moving to Northville next week and theres no Dollys, but there is a Primos.

Any recommendations on a company to clean the engine and inspect after disassembly? Buddys recommend chucks engine exchange.

Unfortunately, I don't really know too many places around that does that. I know that the NAPA on Union Lake road in Commerce does full builds, so if they can't, they should know who can.

They are more than a normal NAPA parts store, one of few places that can do flywheel balancing and pressing off wheel bearings on axles. I've used them for a wheel bearing on my 9 bolt and balancing my flywheel.

Damn. Nice looking build. Looks like the project snowballed on you, didn't exactly end up budget, but one hell of a car.

No worries. JJust called today & block is getting an hone. Sounds like a badass NAPA!

Definitely went well over expected budget, but I think it was to make the best car I could. Thanks man! Hope luck stops shitting on me!

Made the decision to pick up an aluminum Gen4 5.3 shortblock.
15k original miles, fresh rebuild for boost.

Aluminum gen4 5.3 HO from an 08 Sierra 15k miles
All new clevite bearings total seal rings gapped @ .025 and .027 (for boost or nitrous)
Pro comp head studs, all new gaskets and seals including head gaskets
25k miles LS3 cam, springs, and pushrods New LS2 head duty timing chain
LS6 oil pump, New LS7 lifters
New NGK Br7ef plugs gapped @ .040
15 ZL1 Camaro red plug wires

Seller is keeping his heads and I'm throwing on my 799s (which is what he had anyway)
Should be able to run quite a bit more boost but gonna keep this pulley on it for now and break the motor in. Once I can lay down some power I'll pulley down for more boost and run meth.

Gonna flip the 6.0 or rebuild it with forged internals over time. Hope to have the car on the road within 2 weeks running the L33. Can't exacly rebuild the 6.0 in my apartment complex and not in the position to pay for a builder to do it.

Subframe pulled, long block assembled, balancer pinned, clutch torque'd to spec, bolted on to subframe.
Ohlins front installed.

Laying the heat reflector today and lowering the car onto the drivetrain assembly.

Starting to get exciting again

Maybe with Holley EFI instead of the MSD 😂

Nah, jokes aside the MSD seems like a good unit. Just bummed not everything worked properly for my first attempt. Didn't exactly have the opportunity to see if they were just faulty sensors or what.

Hoping this go about is much better!

Knocked out a ton of **** today with my buddy Steve.

Should be back on the road soon!
I want to change out all my control arms but that'll have to wait.
Eventually I'll have every single bolt on the car changed out.

Turns out, that was with a misfire lol

No more misfire/ECU problems.
Needs a good tune to unleash its power, definitely not as wuick as the 6.0 but more streetable.

The CAN module lets me see my Tach. I need to rewire the ABS unit to pick up wheel speed sensor. The other lights will probably be pulled from the dash itself
