1967 Cougar build (over 500 pictures and videos)

For headers doesn't someone make 351W swap headers for this car or early mustang? I have used fox 351w headers on a fox body swap before. Cut the flanges off flush with the current flange, I made a tool to round the square tubing and then inserted them in the header flanges you can buy online. While your mocking these up you can shorten or put a little more angle in them if needed to clear the firewall but make sure you have a starter on it.
To ID the 9 inch there are two bolts at the bottom corner that can only be removed by socket a box end wrench won't work. If you can get to all the bolt holes with a box wrench its a 8". I would be very surprised to see a 8" after looking at the mods that have been made by previous owner.
Definitely a cool build. Looking forward to seeing the progress.

I think you got the 9" thing backwards. Two of the bottom bolts on a 9" can't be accessed by a socket so you have to use a wrench...:-) At this point, I am pretty sure that it is a 9". I am going to see if there is a tag in the front that might help to identify it's origins.

Cool car and build. I've recently helped a friend with his '68 Cougar prep it for the return of a 390 (he bought it with a 289, though it was a 390 car) I learned from this that the 390 cars came with some extra bracing and welds inside the engine bay. This link here:

Has some pics to the extra welds in the engine bay and this next link below shows the gussets that you can either buy from them (or easily make on your own) for reinforcing the cross member:

These reinforcements were for the higher powered engines. It may be worth looking into...

Awesome build! I have been procrastinating on my own 69 Cougar LS swap build. I am on the hunt for a GTO oil pan now and then I will be ready to put my motor in place. Keep up the great work, and I hope you don't mind me stealing some of your ideas
On a side note, kind of funny I also have an LS swapped Rx-7

So today I did a little more investigative work on the rear axle. The car is in storage but I was able to get a few pictures with a long arm reach, a cellphone, and some luck...LOL
From the looks of it, this is definitely a 9" with a Nodular iron carrier. See the N in the background?
Also, check out this cool pinion snubber arrangement. Has anyone ever seen something like that before? Is that a Daytona pinion support? ....w-4668-C
Does anyone have the secret decoder ring for Ford diff tags?

Yeah that is a monster of a rear. The wfu-e tells you what cars this came in, not sure what yours decides to. 0DB is your date code, which says Second week of April 1970. The 4L30 tells you it is a 4.30 Locker 9 tells you 9 inch and the last part is the manufacture plant code

The WFU-E is from a 1970 Mustang, according to this:
