Default GTO LS2 2 yoke/companion flange

I'm doing my first LS (which is also my first RWD) build into my RX7. On my 2006 GTO T56 I have a flange with a rubber coupling on it, can I remove the whole set up and put in a different standard slip yoke? Does this factory flange assembly just slide out? I'm learning about V8's as I go and there's no manuals for the GTO. Thanks for any help.

No. The GTO T56 uses a bolt on flange. What year RX7 are you doing?

Your best option is to call The DriveShaft shop and get an adapter for the GTO T56 output yoke. Then have them build you a CV driveshaft that will accommodate the minimal movement needed, since you have IRS.

My GTO flange just slid out and I replaced it with a normal yoke from A T350 27 spline.

Looks like I need to go to storage and attempt to pull it, I just don't want my driveline to feel mushy

Yes the flanged slip yoke comes right out and a u-joint GM 27 spline yoke fits in place.

Bob and Matthew,

How did you deal with the stud that protrudes once you unbolt the GTO yoke? If you just install a regular slip yoke it will be stuck too far out...

You're thinking of the CTS-V T56 or other fixed yoke TR6060 variants. The GTO mainshaft is slip-yoke style and dimensionally just like an F body. Just set up differently for synchro fitment.

I wasn't sure if it was a slip because it's really in there and seems fixed, I can't jerk it out by hand...

I asked the same question a while back when I picked up my GTO T56. It just pulls out.

If you're having difficulty removing it, grab a rubber mallet and give it a few light taps of persuasion.

Any time you find you're right too often, someone goes and does something like sell the OP a CTS-V T56.

HA! From what the OP was describing it sure sounded like a CTSV trans (I did think that the GTOs were the same, which they aren't). But looking at the picture it looks like a GTO LS2 with a CTSV or maybe even a 5th gen f-body trans. The shifter doesn't look like either a GTO or a CTSV shifter, so I am not really sure.

Time to do some searching via part number.

Andrew

*edit* I was looking at various pictures and that tails housing looks like a 4th gen f-body...<shrug>

Well I really hope that's not the case, it's supposed to be a 30k 2006 GTO pullout, the shifter is a B&M rip shifter.

Does the yoke just slip out?
