Default Ignition question

My dad is looking at 98ls1 and t56 to swap into a 70 El camino. They are out of a T/A. My question is, does anyone know if the ignition system on the 98 is different from 99 up? He was told he didn't want a 98 because they had ignition issues. Thanks

Ive had a 98 in my Nova for years and don't know any differences in ignition from the 99-up. The PCM is pinned a little different, but not much.

I have been told that he 97-98 PCM are harder to tune.. might research the Pinning and the Tuning for the PCM.
