72 chevelle LS swap
#22
When you swapped from dbw to dbc did you just get a new harness and pcm? It seems to kind of a pain to put together the stuff to run dbw for that Holley high ram. Was considering if it would be easier to just buy a pcm for dbc and give up on dbw. What do you think?

Got the body back down on the frame, after i finished painting the bottom and running the new stainless fuel lines. I'm slowly getting the parts put together to start the ls swap. Currently working on installing the new Aeromotive efi 340 stealth swap tank. Also finally received my Holley 302-2 pan.

Forget about the suspension parts I installed new bushings, after I get it running again I'm going to order either air ride or umi suspension. Just want to drive the chevelle again its been a few years since I have driven it.

Built and intstalled all the fuel lines, finished the brake system and bled them.
Ordered and received the Jakes performance stage 3 4l80e bolted up to the block and sat in to mock up crossmember.
Now working on driveshaft angle for mounting the cross member. Hoping to finish up this weekend and start wiring body and motor next weekend. Also sending off the steering box and steering pump to lee morris to be rebuilt.

After setting motor and transmission I was at 5 degrees and hitting the floor. After cutting out the tunnel now at 3 degrees. Now I'm going to build new tunnel, bit frustrated stuff happens.

I ordered Tci flex plate, american auto wire classic update series body harness, holley oil pan baffle, and ls6 valley pan cover. I'm going to start wiring the body this weekend. Hopefully finish that next weekend. I will try to keep this more up to date.

It's been a long time since I updated this thread. I lifted the body off the frame to finish the crossmember mounts on the frame.
Once I got the body back onto the frame I painted the firewall. Just so it looked better when I installed the engine and transmission.
I wanted to make the factory low mount AC to work without notching my frame since I'm going to turbo the car. So I moved the motor mount perches on the frame and moved which bolts I was using in the double d motor mount plates. Then notched the AC mount.

Installed the sound deadener on the firewall and floor so I could install dash and seats. Also built a block off plate for where the radio was.
I bought and installed the l99 waterpump to work with the truck accessories.
I received my custom gauges from speed Hut, for my custom dash cluster I built.

I ordered the trick flow steam line kit wasnt to bad to install.
The truck accessory bracket won't clear the fittings on the fuel rail so I had to use the dirty dingo alternator/ps bracket
I got my cluster back from powder coating I had it powdered satin texture black.
Also ordered a new shifter I always wanted a bandit style shifter.

I ran the psiconversions harness through the firewall and almost finished wiring the rest of the body with the American Autowire update harness.
I ordered and received my DeWitts ls conversion radiator for the chevelle it is a beautiful piece.
I couldn't find a good place to hide the computer so I made a bracket to mount to transmission tunnel and it will be hidden under a console.
I cut the back of the glove box off to clear the vintage air mock box and decided to mount engine fuses in the glove box. I built a new back piece for the glove box to mount the fuse box.
After I got it powdered in the textured satin black turnout pretty sweet I think

I mounted the obd port in the ashtray to hide it, I want to maybe rework this later on.
I got my block off plate back from powder in the textured satin black.
I mounted the radiator and found some hoses that worked with the l99 waterpump and the passenger side inlet/outlet radiator.
Also built a bracket to mount the fan relays next to the radiator.
I ordered some silicone couplers and some aluminum tube and built a custom intake.

I was going to wait for suspension but I decided I wanted to do coilovers front and rear so I found a deal or coilovers and sway bars. Then I ordered speedtech performance rear coilover brackets and there upper and lower front arms.
I wanted to install new wilwoods all the way around but I had already converted the fronts to discs and hadn't driven them yet so I wasn't going to wast money. The wilwoods will be a future purchase. But I had the backing plates and spindles powder coated to match the new suspension.
I got all the front suspension installed while I was waiting for my custom ford 9 inch to be built by Mark Williams Enterprises.

Mark Williams Enterprises finished my ford 9 inch it has 35 spline axles, a Detroit locker, big bearings, forged 1350 pinion yoke. It is a beautiful piece
The rear looks good with the coilovers and the 295s I was so happy how it turned out.
I sent my fender wells and core support and bumper brackets to power coating. Makes it look new even though is the original parts.
Got most of the parts on and suspension adjusted so I could order my driveline from Mark Williams Enterprises.

My driveline showed up from Mark Williams Enterprises it's a 3.5" aluminum bonded it is so nice.
I built a exhaust system for now when I turbo it I'll change or modify not sure yet. But I researched best mufflers I went with 3" X pipe and Hooker maximum flow mufflers. They sound great and seem to not restrict horsepower.

I took it to get an alignment man it runs better than it ever has.
I sold my cowl hood when I took the body off the frame so I talked to the lady that bought my mom's old house seeing if my original flat hood was still there. It had been laying in a field for 7 years. It had more rust but still worked to cover the engine bay. I had to cut a hole for now then I'll be ordering a cowl hood.
I loaded it up and hauled it to get dyno tuned, hoping for big numbers even though it only has headers and that high ram which isn't helping until it's boosted.
It put down 318hp 334tq I'm going to order my turbo cam from Lil John motorsports.

I took it to a local show this last weekend and they gave me a trophy for best ls swap even though I was the only one there. Made me feel good
I ordered some wheels and drag radials for the track next month.
Driven it about 300 miles it's done great only issue I have had was the rear drums came apart while I was at the drag strip. So it should run better when I go back to the track next month and I ordered drag radials.
I'm going to start ordering sheet metal so maybe I can get most of the body work finished.
