Once I finally got the oil pan issue solved on these early model A body Chevelle's it was time to try to conquer the header issue. It seemed like all of the big aftermarket header guys like Lemon, Sanderson, American Racing etc. None of them had headers for these early model Chevelles that did not require some type of modification to raising the motor or notching K member. It seems they all have headers to fit the 1968 - 1972 A Body Chevelle. I am not an expert on the differences between these cars, but there must be something b/c everyone has the 68-72 and it has been hell finding headers for a 64 - 65 Chevelle.

American Racing Headers swore up and down they had a header to fit my A body 65 Chevelle. From the block to the steering shaft I have approx. 3 1/2". So when I got the set of headers from ARH I immediately knew they would not work.

#7 cylinder to steering shaft 3 1/2" clearance

ARH from inside flange to bend on #7 cylinder....see an issue???

Oh look they don't fit....I knew I was skeptical when ARH were the only place that said hell yes we have a set to fit your application.

I had the message below on my build thread when I did my 1964 swap. You might give him a call and see if they have what your looking for.

You're putting together a very nice build! If you want to ditch those manifolds and put some nice stainless steel headers, these Kooks headers were designed to fit the A Body.

Also check Summit racing. They have many listed for the Chevelle LS swap

JerryA, that is what I ended up going with. I sent back the ARH and got the Flowmaster Scavenger Elite Series. If someone needs the part number just let me know. They fit like a glove. They are really close to the floor pans, so sound deadening is a must, but I was going to do that anyway. I will post some pictures later.

Found the part number of the Flowmaster headers for these early A body Chevelles. They work great with the Canton Oil pan, and you will not have to raise your motor. FLO-814116

I still decided to cut my tunnel out for clearance. I probably could have got the 4L80E in there with a BFH, but the tunnel was in bad shape from over the years so just decided to cut it out.

Flowmasters clearing the steering shaft

I think it burned ARH that these Flowmasters fit and their's did not.

Dont know if you make it over to the Chevelle site but Brian Hoss has been getting information for a spread sheet on what parts are used to make these LS 's fit into these A bodys, he probably would be interested in what you are using to make yours work. There hasn't been much info for the 64, 65's

I am very familiar with Chevelle Tech, and Brian Hoss. He actually was the guy that recommended me using the Canton Oil pan on my build. He saved the day.

I need to do an update over there, I have my build thread in my signature on the Chevelle site. My familiarity with posting on forums has slowed my updates, but I want to try to make sure other folks can learn a bit from my build, b/c I have learned so much from other folks here and over on the Chevelle site.

I tried to use the Holley pan on my build and it would not work for me. I know people who have run them, and they notched their crossmember. I just thought the time and effort to notch the crossmember was not worth it to me if I could find a pan that would work for my application. That was my reasoning to go with the Canton oil pan.

I will have a DBC setup. The motor that I picked up had a harness already setup for cable, so that is what I determined my direction.

Got a few updates to show, along with a few questions.

We went ahead and removed the heater box. I did not like the look and decided to weld a replacement piece in.

Heater Box Gone

We also came to realization that we might as well replace all of the suspension components with something more substantial. We went with a UMI Stage 2 kit. It came highly reviewed here and Chevelle Tech website.

upper control arm

Also decided to replace the tie rods, and upper and lower control arms, shocks/springs

New tie rods installed

New upper and lowers for rear end

rear springs, had to source the isolators b/c the originals were brittle

Default Fuel Delivery System

I am looking to have about 650 HP at the Crank. I am running 65# injectors and have the GPA-6 pump that I got from Tanks Inc along with their EFI tank. The originally supplied me with the filter/regulator LS9904.

This regulator I just saw had a 58 fixed PSI rating. Well with me having 65# injectors that does not sound like I will have sufficient regulation of my fuel. I am wondering how I should setup my fuel delivery system. I am completely green on this setup.

Those injectors flow 65 lbs/hr at 58.0 PSI. Your delivery system will be fine. You do not need more then 58 PSI for them.
