Couple small updates. Put close to 1k miles on last summer with no hiccups. Love the new 4.30 gears over the 3.73's. I can use 6th gear now and its a blast ripping through 1st-4th gear.
I swapped out the stock ls2 intake with a new fast 102, hopefully I see some gains there. Also made a little skid plate for some insurance with the gm muscle car pan. I plan on pulling the motor next winter and swapping on the holley pan. Before spring gets here I would like to get a set of the stainless hooker headers on the car and sell the hedmans I currently have. Also doing the trunnion bushing upgrade on the rockers and throwing in some 7.425" pushrods.
I'm getting some valvetrain noise when hot, mostly just hearing it through the headers. I measured and had .050" pre load, so hoping the longer push rods will help out.
Ready for spring to get here so I can get the car back out!!

Went to the opening day test and tune at the local 1/8 mile. Started out pretty slow since the concrete for the first 100 feet or so was brand new. Its much harder trying to launch the car on the low profile drag radials. My car needs bias ply's if im going to get some 1.6 60' times. I was able to get a couple good runs other then poor 60 foot times in before the car broke. Snapped a drivers side axle shaft.
My best time was only a 7.77, but that was with a 1.9 60' and the car is running over 94 mph, with a best mph so far of 94.43. The ls2 is definitely making more hp then my old carb 383, which had a best of 90 mph in the 1/8 mile. If I can find some better slicks for the car and make it back to the track I think I should be able to get a 7.30-7.40 out of it fairly easy.

moser axles are working great. Look much beefier then the originals thats for sure. Was a pretty cheap fix/upgrade. Had to pull the rear all apart though because metal shards every where.
The new tires I was running at the track. I really need bias plys but for a tire I run on the street they were starting to hook at the track. If the axle wouldnt have broke I bet I could have easily pulled a 7.50.

Right now I'm ordering a new 3.5" pst aluminum driveshaft with chromoly slip yoke and pinion yoke. going with solid spicer 1350 u joints. Hopefully gets rid of the damn vibrations Im getting up over 70 mph.
Really want to pull the motor and swap oil pans and do ls1 rear brakes to get rid of the drums. Want to at least do the rear brakes so If I snap another axle it doesn't walk out.

That was kind of my plan. I'd love to have a 12 bolt/60/9" But I have so much in this rear, and dont want to drop another 2 or 3k on something else. My car is a street car that barely gets driven, and goes to the track once a year if I'm lucky. If this was a 7.5" I wouldnt have put the money into it, but Its a grand national 8.5". Should be strong enough for what I'm doing with it. Luckily my axle shaft snapped right on the launch when I dumped the clutch.

Super nice build. I used the same headers on my Malibu but I bought them new along with the engine mounts, and trans crossmember from BRP. Ended up not using the trans crossmember because it didnt fit, and the mounts raise the engine up to let the musclecar pan clear better. Wish the holley parts out when doing my swap.
Moser 28 splines in my 8.5 have went 1.5 60' on a drag radial and sticky track no problems. Although some bias ply with a 6 speed will add some more stress.

Thanks for the reassurance on the moser axles! I feel pretty confident in the 8.5" now with the new trutrac diff and moser axles.
I forgot to update that I sold the hedman/brp headers and installed a set of hooker stainless steel long tubes. MUCH better header. they were expensive but well worth it. I had to do some minor trimming on my clam shell motor mounts and get an ls3 dipstick but other then that they slid right in. The brp headers were awful in my car because of how low the engine sat in the k member, which is good for engine angles.
