Good work man! Looks great. I'm in the middle of swapping an 87 with a 6.0 and twin turbos. How was the bell housing fitment in the trans tunnel? Could you possibly get pictures of that area?

I'll snap a few new ones this weekend now that its in place for the final time, what trans are you using?Where my engine is sitting there is tons of room at the back of the engine,it gets tight where the bell mounts to the trans. For the 4L60E massaging for width was what was needed mostly,I would guess if you are using a 4L80E or T56 a bit of cutting and fabbing will be necesssary. For this project I just used a porta power and BFH,if I wasn't so cheap and lazy I would have pulled the interior and done the tunnel properly...

TFI Racing, Just found this thread. I just completed a very similar swap myself. Mine is a 418ci stroker LS3 with a supercharger into a 1990 Supra.

I'm running a Powerglide behind mine, though. Mine is only used for drag racing, so a manual valve body 'glide with a trans brake was the only real choice!

My question for you is, how is your alternator mount working? I used a one-wire alternator on mine, and it eats alternators like crazy. I actually had to mount mine backwards, but I see that you have yours mounted correctly. Does it clear the hood? I have a 4" cowl hood, but if yours clears the stock hood, it should clear mine.

I would appreciate any info you could pass along about how you worked out the alternator mount.

Good luck with the build.

Hello guys. Do you know who makes a install kit for the LS1 for a 1988 Supra Turbo to put LS1 in place of 7M-GTE? We can handle the wiring and fab if necessary , any comments welcome.

Thanks

No kits are available that I know of. There is not a lot of fab work necessary, actually. Motor mounts, modify trans crossmember to accept your trans of choice (mine is a Powerglide), and headers are the main things.

My engine is solid mounted, which makes it a bit easier I guess, but engine mounts were no big deal to make. Trans mount was simply a piece welded onto the existing trans crossmember. Headers can be tricky due to the shape needed. I used a set of Schoenfeld dirt track headers for a SBC for the bottom half, and a box of bends to fab the top half of the headers. They are 1-3/4" to 1-7/8" stepped headers.

I changed to a one-piece drive shaft, but that was easy. Use the end that bolts to the diff, and the tube will slide right into a Chevy driveshaft. I think mine came from a Camaro or truck. Not sure.

Now, since mine is a supercharged setup, it required a little more work for the charge pipes and intercooler mounting, but nothing serious. N/A eliminates all of that part.

I used the Holley HP ECU, and it came with all the required wiring harness. Made the wiring super easy.

Good luck. It's a fun swap, and nobody expects to see a big-cubic-inch, supercharged LS3 in a Supra. Mine gets a LOT of attention at the drag strip.

I saw the CRX headers, but they are only 1-5/8 dia if I remember correctly. Now that I think about it, maybe I do remember them having some sort of kit. I was thinking it was mainly headers and maybe a turbo kit or something. It could have been a full swap kit, though.

Hard to find fittings locally for the vette reg/filter to adapt to the Toyota metric lines,so had to get creative,a tig welder would be handy for this type of work.

Up and running, moves in and out of the shop under its own power, just a few details to sort out and clean up.However my $200 5.3 still has no oil pressure, thought I had solved that issue, looks like it will be coming out and another scrapyard gem will be taking its place.Junkyard down the street has a couple of 6.0 engines to check out, this fat pig of a car could use the extra torque...

Nice work. This is turning out to be a pretty clean swap.

Did you verify the oil pressure situation with a mechanical gauge?

Yep,not good.No big deal,I'll just set this one aside and go through it for the next project, the major disappointment is the time getting another engine and swapping it out when there are other things around here that need attention.
Sometimes cheaping out and taking chances pays off, other times it bites you in the ***!

Alright,let this thread lapse,here's a few updates:
Grabbed a 2005 6.0 from a rolled logger's truck,muddy but relatively low kms.

I'm surprised by how quick and easy it is to R&R the engine in this thing, nothing to it.

I kinda knew the stock rad wouldn't be up to the task, but had to try.Good thing I had an old rad lying around from my circle track days, keeps it nice and cool this time of year, but should move up to a better fan in warmer weather.

Runs, drives, lights up the rear tires at will. With the exception of the speedo, gauges work, heat but no a/c,all other power accessories function.
Still working through a few kinks, need to pull the driveshaft and have it balanced, also have to pull the PS pump and shim the valve some more and tweak a few things around with EFILive.Sunny, dry days are in short supply this time of year on a rainy island in the Pacific Northwest, hopefully can do some more tire burning this weekend.
