I saw this the other day and was thinking it would work well to seal the ends of the harness when using the woven fabric looking wiring loom. It's not real cheap, but may be worth it to avoid having to tape the ends. I'm thinking of trying it. https://www.ronfrancis.com/prodinfo.asp?number=BW%2D50

I've used it .like you said it's not cheap but looks good. I usually get it from McMaster Carr .As an alternative sometimes I use 3m friction tape that I get at Home Depot.its a woven fabric tape that looks great on a harness.

Used it all over my engine, Love to look. PITA to work with. you have to de-pin each connector and slide it over the wires then shrink, I use the standard heat shrink with the adhesive as closing then reinstall the cannon plug. if you forget a wire, cut it all off and start over. Did I say I really love the look, if you proceed you will really need to love the look as well. I'm sure I have some samples I can mail to you if you want to play with it before jumping in. PM me your address. I purchased it through edmo.com, the have it from1/2 inch to 2 3/4 inch with different shrinkage rates.

I was kind of thinking you might have to take the wires out of the plugs, which on some plugs I find to be damn near impossible..... But I do like the look of the loom. Maybe the woven type that's split would be better, and then just use the friction tape on the ends? Decisions decisions....

This F6 is real nice. www.wirecare.com/product.asp?pn=WC12076444 Split fabric loom. I had to switch too this when my flex PET wouldn't expand enough to fit over my plugs/connecters.
This heat shrink fabric wrap might be worth looking into . www.wirecare.com/product.asp?pn=WC01464931

I seen similar stuff listed in either Summit of Jegs and it says made in USA, so it might be the same supplier. Worth a look.

I wish that fabric heat shrink came is smaller sizes. The smallest is 1/2" unshrink and it has a 2:1 shrink ratio.

Delphi tool, I used. I'm sure there are lots of choices but I was able to get by with these. Order two of the greens ones right off the bat so when you break it your not as mad as I was.

I have and like the green tool myself, but different plugs come apart in different ways. I think the temp plug needs to be dealt with delicately because you don't just shove the tool inside (common problem for me). It's more of a slide in and pry gently and the terminal will release. I should make a video.
