Default Is tuning for Speed Density a viable solution?

I have a completely stock 2000 LS1/4L60E combo swapped into a 1938 street rod, using stock exhaust manifolds. Only mods are true dual exhaust, 2.5 pipes/mufflers, no cats, rear 02s disabled. I am running into clearance problems with running the MAF, air filter and intake ductwork. I would like to eliminate the MAF in order to gain clearance. Is tuning for SD and eliminating the MAF a viable solution? Or am I creating other problems? Drive ability is the priority...no plans for changing out cam, or other performance mods.

Sure you can. Just make sure you put the IAT somewhere

Yep, sure is. I had the MAF removed when I fitted the cold air intake, and a speed density tune done. Don't notice any difference on drive-ability at all, as still drives real smooth.

I used a SD tune on my Porsche swap, runs great! No maf and no o2's or emissions. Just map, air temp, knock, cam, crank, and coolant temp sensors. I'm sure gas mileage would go up with a maf tune, but when my cruise rpm is 3k gas mileage goes out the door!
