Default 1969 Chevrolet El Camino SS396. LS1, 4l60E trans.

Hello! I'm doing a LS1 w4l60E trans in my 1969 Chevrolet el Camino SS396.

I have a budget. And my question is ; Can i use the original SS396 Radiator with lS1 fans as cooling on my project? will it hold, be enough cooling? This is just temporary until i get more money for a aliminium radiator. Everything i do now is as cheap as possible , just to get it running. And anyone who has a tip on a cheap gas tank with pump and sending unit? Im thinking about this one: http://www.tanksinc.com/index.cfm/pa...rod/prd383.htm with the pump and sending unit. Is this a good price? I'm very thankful for answers! I'm 19 and live in Norway and doing the build on my own, so i need help. hehe

Best regards Hans.

There are alot of cars running stock radiators, with the LS1 fans you should be good unless it gets really hot there. I went with a Griffin LS swap radiator due to the Texas heat.

It's not installed yet, but I also went with the complete Tanks Inc setup based on other threads on the forum. Seemed like the best choice for the money.

I used the stock radiator, and that is the tank I wished I would have went with from the get go. I did an in line fuel pump with a stock sumped tank. But have already had one pump fail and will end up doing the tank you mentioned in the long run anyways. My car is a 72, check out my build thread, I can answer most anything you need el camino wise with the swap. https://ls1tech.com/forums/conversions-hybrids/1631831-1972-el-camino-ls1-swap.html

I recessed top of a new tank for my 76 skylark to keep a factory 06 silverado pump assembly. I made a box 6x6 4 inches deep on bottom of tank for pump to be in. Its the lowest point of tank. About $175.00 into new tank & pump assembly. $5.00 scrap metal. Nothing special but new/ built cheap.

Default Chevrolet El Camino 1969 lS1/4L60e swap

Thank you for answers all! helped alot! Now i have the fuel delivery , fitment, cooling and exhaust ready (in my mind) hehe. But! i have a problem with the accessory drive! I know the altenator will be a problem with the steering box. I'm going to drop the ac and move the altonator over the p/s with a bracket. But where can i get the bracket and belt? and the balancer didn't follow when i bought my engine. Where can i see that my waterpump, altenator , p/s and idlers is for camaro or corvette? And where is a good place to buy the bracket and belts? would be nice to know a good place to buy swap parts. Thanks.

Check out Lsbrackets.com have different options. holley does too. I think stock truck stuff fits but you change steering pulley to a Dorman 300-130 for clearance.

im getting ready for my 2nd swap in 88 squarebody 1/2 ton 4 door. I bought a underhood cavalier fuse box as Im leaving under hood of truck. get it for 95-05 cavalier. It has more than needed but extra dont hurt. $20 at local yard. i just rearranged stuff for fuses. part of them is going to have 12v all time others are going only to be 12volt ignition/run power for injectors, mass air flow, oxygen sensors, coils, etc. looks like its going to work out good.
