Default 81 Trans Am LS1 / 4L60E

Finally completed my LS conversion on my 81 TTA. After a year of collecting parts and working out details the car is 98% complete. We removed the panels and doors and did a complete repaint…from burgundy to Daytona Sunset Orange. All front end parts removed and powdered coated. In came a LS1 and 4L60E out of a 98 Trans Am. Relocated the AC compressor to the top, dirty dingo brackets and clamshell mounts. Used 4th gen radiator and fans. Custom engine harness with 99 computer and a Spectra fuel tank with built in fuel pump.. Speedhut gauges to work with the new electronics. Conversion kit for the original shifter. Changed rear to 3.42 from 3.08 with new suspension. Wilwood brakes on the front. All new steering and suspension on the front.

The car is almost done, I have a power steering line that is leaking due to a compression fitting that was to help modified the original line on the 98 motor. The fuel tank had a bad sending unit and had to be replaced, the AC is not working and we are having to track down the problem. The in cress in power from the original 301 turbo is far superior and well worth the conversion.

do you have a part number or link to the tank you used? did it have a internal pump?

For the power steering, consider just using a stock high-pressure hose for a 98 TA. My original LS1 engine came out of a 2001 base vette and I used a new PS hose for a 2001 vette. It bolted directly to my steering box with minimal bending (check my build thread). Your PS Box should have the appropriate metric fitting on it already.

Good luck with conversion and let me know if I can be of help. You will definitely have more work with that engine and the accessories than one from a 4th gen car or vette, but it is definitely a solid engine. You will love the power.

Car looks awesome! I'm busy with mine to. Did you need to do anything with regards to the wheel studs? I've purchased a set of Year One snowflakes and with my disc conversion find the studs a bit short?

What intake are you running? Is there room under the hood for a truck type intake? Also, what bracket did you use to relocate the AC compressor?
