Default v8 Wrangler Exhaust advice

ok so im having a bit of a conundrum , hopefully someone can comment!

i have a 97 Jeep Wrangler TJ, i put in a 2006 5.3L from a silverado. this engine is using 2010 Camaro Headers.

the exhaust is currently 2.5" from the headers, into a 3" y collector, next the transmission into a THRUSH WELDED MUFFLER 3" in-3 IN out
( http://www.thrushexhaust.com/products.html#Welded )
then a turn down dump, pointed straight down before the rear Axle.

my issue i am having is the jeep is WAY to loud. between the lack of sound deadening, in the car itself and the exhaust, and the turn down right in front of the rear axle there is alot of drone and sound reverberation.

i am unable to point the exhaust out the side due to the frame and off-roading, or out the Rear due to the design of the rear axle trussing.

with the inherent Short wheel base of the jeep, leaved adding another mufflerout of the question.

does anyone have have any ideas? different muffler? slip in insert like the Vortex cone OR Spiral insert? a small high flow CAT?

thanks!

Go with a different muffler.
2 Chamber mufflers has a tendency to be loud, especially in the drivers compartment, and Thrush does say their "welded" mufflers have a aggressive tone.
I'd go with a Dynomax (Ultra-Flo Welded) or Magnaflow muffler the longer (case length) the better, but Dynomax #17221, Magnaflow#11229, and Borla ProXS #40359 which all have a 14" case length should be noticeably quieter. Still if you can fit a longer muffler like the Magnaflow #11258 which has a 18" case length or Dynomax (Ultra-Flo Welded) #17233 with a 20" case length that would be even better(quieter). You also might want to experiment with turning the "turn-down" the to the left or right some so it's not pointed straight down. That will usually cut down some of the drone in the driver/passenger compartment.

On my Wrangler TJ LS swap I have 3" Y merge then 3" into the single cat and then into the largest Flowmaster 50 3 chamber I could fit and then 3" tail pipe out the back. I think I used a grand wagoner aftermarket tail pipe. Had to modify a little but it did work. You might have to chop it up a bit to get it over your rear axle truss. I'm running a 8.8 with no truss.

You might want to try a 3" dynomax Hemi turbo muffler. It's the large economy version of the turbo muffler.

Also I used Dyna Mat with the thicker foil sound deadener over the top of that in the front seat area and the back seat area.

thanks for the ideas! perhaps ill try a new muffler! i went with the thrush due to the price at the time. ill try a new brand of muffler. it appears the thrush is 19" long already....so length might not be an issue.

perhaps i can get the turn down to be a slip on piece so i can adjust its angle a but.

yea i have an 8.8 with the Artec truss. clearance is VERY small....since the truss adds a bunch of height...

also im running stock height, so that doesn't help either...perhaps putting these new springs on will give me the couple few inches i need!

about sound deadening, im at an impass..my tub is lined on the inside, and in the summer i tend to leave the top off and let it rain in. this is great but offers nothing more than thin sheet metal between the exhaust and body. ive been thinking about
RaaMat which is cheaper dynamat but still a butyl product. maybe even topped with a MLV which is known to be a good sound deadening mixture. but with those, i lose my nice easy to clean rustproof inside...GRRR choices...

it looks like that Super turbo is designed for WAY less sound, which may just be what the dr ordered!
