Default LT1 t56 to LS1 conversion?

I am trying to locate a t56 for my foxbody swap. there are no ls units available local but there is an lt1 unit nearby for a good price. what would it take to get this to bolt to my ls1? I have a stock ls1 from an 02 trans am.

perks of the lt1 t56 is it has a mechanical speedo (like my mustang) and I believe they have a higher torque rating.... I just cant find what I need to get it to bolt to my car.

You have to change the input shaft and bellhousing.

I'm planning the same thing, as the lt1 units are generally more available and less expensive.

Lt1 units do not have mechanical speedo drives, however, I don't believe.

that's a sweet article! thankyou!!!! just read the whole thing and now I am kind of excited.

im not sure where I got that idea from with the whole mechanical speedo thing.

and then I would just need to source an LS1 T56 bell from somewhere...

ALSO, it has been over 3 years since that article was written... do you know if rockland standard gear still offers this kit? I couldn't find much on their website. they look like one of those top secretive "you have to call for prices" websites.

The kit is still available. I was about to order last month, but it turns out a friend has the parts I need. The sales rep knew exactly what I was talking about when I called.

Does anybody know if TE same can be done with a ford Motorsport t56? Just a mid plate and input shaft change? Basically wondering if all these t56's have the same bolt patterns.

just wondering if a GM ls1 midplate has the same bolt pattern and dimensions as the ford midplate. can I put an ls1 midplate on a FordMotorsport aftermarket trans. there has to be one person out there who has done this.

the FMS unit is shorter and DOES have the mechanical speedo because it was meant for a foxbody... this would be super handy if the Rockland Standard Gear kit worked.

You could call Rockland or Tick and see what they say. I'm sure either would be happy to tell you what you need and sell you the parts.

I converted one. New front plate and input shaft and bell hosing. Easy.
