Rowdy burnouts and loud noises: The LSX/Subaru swap project
#41
Yep the t-56 is going to spin an independent 8.8 courtesy of a terminator. I'm going iron block purely for strength. Its getting something in the neighborhood of a borgwarner s480 so I'm going to need all the strength I can get.

Oh sweet, I didn't see that you were planning on boosting it. Any idea what you budget is? I'm currently doing a V8 swap in a Boxster and I've pretty much spend double of what I had expected.

Honestly I didn't really set a budget on it. I'm going to spend as much as it takes to get it to where I want to be and do it right the first time. Unfortunately I'm not made of money so it takes a little longer.

Its nice to have free labor every once in a while so I can build a bike and a car at the same time. My buddy finished up the top portion of welding on the frame rail today.

Launching!
Super cool, love to see this thing tear it up. Going to surprise some people, that's for sure.
"what's that thing got, a fart can?"
"Yea, just intake/ exhaust.... and an extra 4 cylinders, though I think the AWD is toast...."

Are you on any of the Subaru forums? I thought I recognized the screen name. I'm not a huge fan of the 22b kit, and I think a lot of the kits are coupe kits and I'd like to retain the use of the back doors.

A couple actually. RS25 mainly. Nasioc just annoys the hell out of me.
it doesn't matter whether coupe kit or not depending on how handy you are
they worked just fine on my wagon with a door line trimmed and a kind of mini tub to fill them out inside, then a little trim over the tail light which you wouldn't have to do on your sedan
This was my winter beater for 4 years

Ohh I new I recognized that name from rs25..And yeah like I said I'm not a huge fan of the 22b kit, especially the rears where they're riveted on. For my rears I'd like to have it seamless or at least no showing fasteners.

Sweet build and you've got some serious ambition: Roadkill-style parking lot engine pull in the snow and rebuilding in a storage unit. That reminds me of some guys I know who built a street-parked racecar in Brooklyn, running their cheap welder on extension cords going back their second-story apartment to fab the rollcage. You can't stop the motivated.
Any plans for driveline upgrades with the forced induction?

Clutch: need to do more research
Driveshaft: DSS carbon (budget dependent, I can live with an aluminum one)
Rear diff: cobra/terminator independent 8.8 with a DSS ring and pinion. Undecided on gear ratios until I can decide what's a good balance.
Axles: upgraded cobra axles with cobra hubs mated to a Subaru knuckle.
That's the plan for now. I want the drivetrian to be solid, if not overkill so I have no worries about breaking anything when I dump the clutch.

Take my advice because I am an old ****** and I have played with all of the above parts. Get a soft hitting clutch and treat it like a fuse for the rest of your driveline parts. Clutches are relatively inexpensive and easy to change, while transmissions, rear ends, and axles are not...
