They make conversion boxes to go from electrical to mechanical. Definitely spendy. Or install an electronic speedo gauge.

A couple of years ago takeout 3650s were cheap, plus they're strong, and they have a choice of 3 different ratios for fifth gear, so I figured out how to bolt one to an LSx. I even thought about selling adapter kits. But everyone I talked to ridiculed the idea.

I am new to the whole LS game and I have an urge to put an lq9 in my new edge mustang. I have the tr3650 trans and would like to keep it for an initial cost savings (t56 later). Question is, where did you find an adapter to bolt the Trans up? And what input shaft did you use? Any other parts that are needed to bolt it up?

My solution was a 2 piece adapter plate, one half bolts to the engine block, the other half bolts to the 4.6L bellhousing, then bolt the 2 halves together. Best way is 1/4"-thick mild steel. Aluminum would need to be thicker, and that creates more problems.
I think with a bit of cutting it could be possible to get the bell half to bolt directly to the block, after bolting it to the bell, and save 1/4" of length, but then you need an SFI blanket in case the clutch explodes.
But the 3650 is strong, and demand is much lower than t56, plus more Mustang 4.6L 3650s were produced than 4th-gen F-car T56s.
